I've had a dilemma for months over which dashboard to put in the Can Am. I don’t like the factory options, so have been looking around for some time. I’m down to 2 options, BUT I’ve got some questions I can’t get answered, even from the makers frown So, it’s over to the experts then..... (yes, that’s you lot!!).

AIM MXL ( link) – This is my first choice. In “street” from, it has 6 LEDs (indicators, main beam, fuel warning, fluid temp, oil pressure, battery / alternator charge), but I’m struggling to find out if I need a handbrake / low brake fluid, rear fog and dipped beam warning lights for IVA or not. I believe a few folks have used these in cars, did they pass IVA on their own, or did they need a separate light for brake fluid / dip / fog???? I do not want separate lights on the dash for such things, as I'm goign for a clean interior look.

Race Tech Dash2 ( link) – Second choice. It’s not as nice as the AIM to look at (IMO), but it has much of the same functionality and is sold as “SVA Compliant” - This means it’s got LEDs for main beam, left and right indicators (separate), rear fog light, alternator output and brake. This would fulfil my wish to have no extra lights on the dash (assuming dip beam is not required), but it does need 4x13mm buttons to mounted somewhere to operate it. I could put them under the dash somewhere out of sight, or find a "smart" steering wheel tho’, so not the end of the world.

Really, I’m looking for feedback from folks who have built & IVA’d cars with both dashs, to know if they pass on their own or not and then what your own thoughts of them were during installation / use.

Thanks, Mark

Do you mean this? If so, yes, seen it, don't like the look of it tho'. I've looked at about a dozen or more alternatives, but only the AIM or Race Tech have the look I'm after.

The AIM looks more professional IMHO.
But have you considered the Stack its realy nice unit and still looks better than that Race Tech...

http://www.stackltd.com/streetdash1.html

But if you go Turbo Engine of any sort then you could be the Biggest Kid on the block and get one of these Defi Units.....

You can only get them in Japan, so you'd have to ask me Nicly to get one wink

And yes they do a 9,000 RPM unit aswell, am inquireing weather it will talk to a DTA system via Can cable at present... Well My man is..

You will need an odometer. The factory sells a nice bonnet for the Stack dash and it is a very nice unit. It minimizes the display and highlights abnormal values very well.

I don't like the Stack and it requires extra warning lights on the dash too (another no-no). The AIM & Race Tech both have odos, it's some of the features mentioned in the opening post, I'm hoping for feedback on... Anyone??

I went with the IQ3 Racepak http://www.racepak.com/Components/IQ3_Display.php for my GTR. I think that it has most if not all of the functions you listed plus a bunch more. Sorry I do not know if it is SVA compliant.

Have you looked at the SPA dash.

Also available as 200mph display.

You do not need a dip light.
You do need fog warning light.
You do need brake level warning light and either a test button or connect it to the handbrake (so the light can be seen to be working.

Randy - Yep, seen the RacePak, but it doesn't meet criteria as it's go no warning lights.

Steve - As an ex-Atom owner, I've spent 3yrs looking at that dash, so don't want another! Cheers for the tips on the lights... is there an exception on the brake warning if the fluid bottle is see-thru and clearly marked "Min / Max"? I've seen that mentioned on a site, but can't find confirmation.

Cheers, Mark

No there has to be a brake fail warning light and a method of testing it.

While talking of brakes you also have to have a label beside the master cylinder indicating the type of brake fluid to be used. And another label warning about not tampering with the brake bias. The exact words are in the IVA manual.

After having Italy's best with heavy Fiberglas interior panels covered in leather that begins to shrink within a year no matter what you put on it, I'll take the plastic of the Corvette any day.

These are stunning cars, it is difficult to get the keys for anything else when this car is at your disposal.
