I'm new on here, so apologies if there's been a thread like this before.

What was the worst & best car you've ever had the (mis)fortune to pick up from a car rental company. The worst for me is easy:

The first Citroen C5, rented from Dublin airport when they were reasonably new in the early 2000's. I was shocked how little "go" that car had. I kept thinking that the handbrake was on. Did Citroen perhaps use the motor out of Sir Clive Sinclair's original C5?

I've not had one real favourite of all of the others, but I was pleasantly surprised by the handling of a Rover 200 3 door (!) and a howling 3 cylinder VW Polo (thrashed to within an inch of its life across the Highlands).

Worst - Citroen C5. ste. It was a stop-gap between company cars and I sent it back after 1 day.
Best - Corvette C6 (Florida) closely followed by a Cadillac Escalade (California)!

Worst: Vauxhall Zafira. It was like sitting on a plank of cardboard.

Worst - Dog eared Dodge Charger. It was a heap of crap and the 2.7 V6 was gutless.

Best - Corvette C6 closely followed by Camaro SS and Challenger R/T.

Best - VW Polo 1.1 . Was driven like it was stolen all the way, excellent fun.

Worst - New Corsa 1.4 - Fat, archaically slow, handling stolen from a ferry, absolute piece of st. those C'MON adverts lie!

Got lumbered with a Daewoo Matiz a few years back in Greece as they had rented my pre-ordered Focus out. It was every bit as horrendous as you could possibly imagine. luckily substantial compensation was forthcoming at the end of the 2 painful weeks.

Ford Fiesta 1.25 (I think) - worst and best, since it is the only hire car I have ever had.

Felt like a tin can, had the annoying wire/mesh like thing across the windscreen (for quick de-icing or something) which was really annoying.

Otherwise, drove better than I expected a 1.25 to, and got me where I needed to go .... Luckily not a long distance.

Worst; Kia Rio when on holiday in Spain.

Best Ford Falcon V8 in Australia because the Focus I was supposed to have was involved in a colision and it was all they had left. I paid the same price as the Focus and lost the deposit becasue it needed ne tyres when I gave them it back. driving

Worst: Probably the Vauxhall Corsa with the weakest three cylinder engine you could ever imagine, it struggled to get up ramps in a multi-storey car park.

Best: Not sure but the time I was given a Mercedes S-Class because they'd overbooked and didn't have the Astra I was meant to get was good.

I normally only get hire car through work but recently had to book one for myself. I found Avis do a range where you are guaranteed the car you book, rather than one out of a similar group of cars. I've booked a Citroen DS3 out of pure curiosity.

Currently got a 320d, which is nice, but too many niggly annoying things for me to want one long term, but as it's my only hire car, it's the best and worst. Suiting really as I both like and dislike bits of it.

Had a Daewoo Matiz when my E46 went in for subframe repair. Had to put up with it for 4 weeks frown I was young at the time, so they claimed its all they could insure me on. It was scary!

I also had a Meriva when some old git drove into the side of my Clio. Most plastically underpowered piece of crap I've driven. And I owned a clio at the time!

Worst - Peugeot 307 with the semi auto gearbox. It was a 1.6 and dangerously slow.

Best - Mondeo Estate Titanium spec with the 138bhp engine and big-ish wheels. Very comfortable, ate the miles with ease and had decent grip. Voice activation was used for 5 mins until I found it easier just to reach out and turn the radio up myself.

Worst - An early Deawoo Lanos from Salt Lake City for a 2000 mile touring holiday of Montana and Yellowstone. Crippled me.

Best - Corvette from Hertz. Get one every time I visit HQ in California.

Best: Lotus Esprit V8
Worst: Toyota Yaris

The Yaris was the first Yaris I'd driven so I'm not sure it'd should've been as bad as I found it, given the rave reviews at the time.

Just spend the day in a hired Meriva 1.6 petrol.

It really was hideous. I had no idea that it was possible to buy a new car that was so ridiculously slow, with such dire road manners and handling. Why people buy these things with their own money is beyond me. Even looking at it as a white good to ferry kids around, its still truly awful.

Still, makes me appreciate my own car more.
