Insurance named driver question

Just a quick question that I can't seem to find the answer to...

If the main driver on an insurance policy crashes and claims, do the named drivers also loose any no claims they have?

Named drivers don't build a no-claims bonus. Maybe Direct Line or similar might allow it... but it's not normal.

Obviously the policy holder claiming on their own policy wouldn't have any effect on any policy the named driver might hold separately elsewhere?

Assuming you mean no claims the named drivers have on other policies, then no. If they are being accumulated on this policy (i've heard some insurers allow this) then you would all loose them.

So my other half is a named driver on my car, if I crash I would loose no claims, but she (on her seperate policy) would not. She would laugh at me however

Was just asking cause I'm trying to lower my insurance premiums and being a young driver I know that adding drivers with good driving history brings the price down. Just want to make sure I'm not jeopardising anyone's NCB if they are added to my insurance policy if the worst were to happen

Assuming the main driver is the policyholder (not always the case) then it is the policyholder that loses any bonus entitlement.

If you have a policy that accumulates a bonus for named drivers then you need to speak to the insurer concerned but I feel it is unlikely the named driver would lose out.

Any seperate policies the named driver has would be unaffected - unless of course the policyholder has been driving a car that has hit the named drivers own vehicle (but I doubt this is the case?).
