I was having a think just and was wondering, how much would I be saving from my (well my dad's sky subscription) by removing the childrens pack (since no one in this house watches those channels any more)and possibly removing the music pack?

I never use the music channels and my dad only just sometimes flicks through them but his TV has youtube on it (one of these fancy samsung LEDs) which he uses a hell of a lot more. Just trying some cost cutting since the sky is more than £100 a month (going down by £10 though since you don't need to HD packs any more). Currently we have all the packages they offer, all TV packs and Broadband and phone.

Don't know if you are aware, but Sky have announced that from 1 September 2011 they are amending their packages to just two - Entertainment & Entertainment Extra.

I'd find out which pack you will be moved first before making any changes.

BTW, have you thought about doing the old trick of calling cancellations and spinning a story that you are thinking of leaving - apparently, it is easy to get 6 months half price by doing this.

I don't think you pay extra for the childrens and music channels, they come as part of the basic package.

I would guess at 1 pound per package.

I recently signed up and the basic package is about 17 quid, plus 1 pound for music, plus 1 pound for discovery channels, plus 1 pound for entertainment channels (sky1).

Then its about 15 quid for sport and 15 quid for movies.

I think I had to pay £1 to add the childrens pack to ours.

Ah so not really worth it then.

And I think the package we would be going onto is entertainment extra.

£100 a year is quite cheap for Sky, do you need month?

is that just for tv? we don't pay that much for all the channels, movies, sports, broadband and phone. definitely worth ringing to remove a few things, I got 20% off our bill for six months for trying to cancel sports

forgot to add HD too

£100pm is quite expensive. We have sky HD but basic package (no movies or sports) plus phone and broadband for £50pm.

That's too much. I was paying full price for all channels (except porn and espn), phone and max internet and paying £70ish a month.

£100 is possible though if you add in the full package, HD, a couple of multirooms, phone incl calls and broadband.

Though be aware this doesn't work if you do not live in a cable area, especially so if you cannot recieve a signal on a set top box or ariel, they will simply call your bluff as my neighbour found out.

I cancelled music and lifestyle as we simply didn't watch them and they saved me a quid each, I still get plenty of the lifestyle channnels anyway and it's only MTV stations that is blocked on the music channels - not exactly a loss. As the others have said, it's the movies & sports that really cost the money.
It does work outside of a cable area, I was given 6 months half price last month and I'm nowhere near a cable area.

Also whilst you don't lose all the music channels if you cancel the music mix, it's not just the music ones that you lose. Q, Kerrang, VH1, 4Music, Kiss.......
