Bounemouth Airshow - Vulcan, Spitfires whoohoo

Is anybody else making a visit to the beach for the Bournemouth Airshow this Thursday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday?


We will hopefully be heading out seaward in our wee little fishing boat from Poole to view the proceedings at least one or two days. Might have some spaces available on the boat if anybody is interested...

Sorry to disappoint but hasn't the Vulcan pulled out with a fuel leak?

Planning to go on sunday, is the Vulcan flying again, I heard recently they'd run out of cash again.

Just been to the Vulcan website & yes it's fallen over with a fuel leak. Hopefully she'll be fixed soon

I was present at a Royal visit about 2 years ago, and a Spit flew over at a reasonable altitude.

My fking god. The noise from that engine was unlike anything i've ever heard. I was stood on a pier and the spit flew over low and banked out to sea.

All it needed to perfect the experiance would have been the chattering of MG fire as it went over, but i guess health and safety wouldnt have that :P

No video or audio on the internet can give you the same feeling as in reality.

Totally amazing machine.

It was similar to this, and it sends shivers up me every time i hear it. So beautiful, yet so deadly at the same time;

The engine noise is even better in a Mustang than a Spitfire! The Vulcan was due at Shoreham Sat/Sun, missed last year too, seems cursed.

Same engine, only made under licence by Packard..

Maybe some of the Stang Reno racers with their highly whipped up Merlins!

If there was a difference in noise between RR engines in Spits it would be the Merlin & Griffon.

For me it's Merlin everytime, just a spine tingling, petrol pulsing in the veins noise!!

You would be surprised how different a Merlin can sound depending on the airframe into which it is fitted. There are also quite a few variants of the Merlin, all of which can have different sound characteristics.

I prefer the sound of the Merlin in the P-51 too. Surprisingly, it also sounds good in the Hispano 1112 Buchon (the Spanish 109 variant).

Awesome clip.. especially the low pass by the Hurricane.. the pilot even gives the crowd a wave with the plane!
