100k Honda Civic Type R's for £3,000
Discussion
Been having a look at the classifieds and have noticed a lot of Type R civics for sale for 3k with 90-100K on the clock.
Have these cars had it by that mileage and that's why they are cheap, or are they a great bargain to be had?
Is there anything major that likes to go wrong at that kind of mileage?

I think the previous post may be a slight over reaction. In terms of age/millage components like suspension & bushes are acceptable things to replace on any car. Plus there are a large number of Type R that will have had after market suspension an exhausts an other consumable parts so I wouldn't worry too much.
Obviously with higher millage id want to see some evidence of service history but in my experience some of the low millage cars ive had have needed far more work due to relative lack of use compared to those with higher millages that have been used every single day for years.

Ours has 127530 miles on the clock , i have replaced the calipers , discs and pads, the suspensions tight , engine is sweeter than ever due to regular oil changes.
The car is fantastic and we have looked after it for five years of ownership so far.
Mileage is a big part of purchasing a car , however if it has regular fettling and a decent wad of receipts then theres no reason why it should put you off.
At 3 grand as long as you do your research they are the performance bargain of the century.
You can come across loads with half that mileage but it may have been thrashed and then mileage would be the least of your worries.

I think it depends on the previous owner(s) as well. If the current owner is an anorak with his/her servicing, maintaining the car extremely well and looking after it, you've got to consider it.
I bought my 120k S3 last year, one complete anal anorak from new, documented everything from new. Apart from a couple of suspension bushes and a drop link, I've only replaced consumables in the 10K that I have covered - cambelt, tyres, a coil pack
oil services. It drives and goes as something with a third of the mileage.
Buy on condition, not necessarily mileage!

They seem to cope with high mileage very well, good ones with good history still drive very well.
Just do the usual checks as with any old car.
I've noticed with the ones I've been offered they have often been meticulously looked after by loving owners so you should be able to find one that fits the bill - amazing value at this price range.
