Hello Chaps,

I was just wondering whether any of you knew of any car rental companies that specialise in prestige cars that they are happy to rent to drivers who are 21 or over. I quite fancy hiring something decent for the day but the problem as always seems to be age. Any help appreciated!

Hi Strachan, budget is upto £500 but i would rather keep it below that. I have found one company called exclusive car hire which will consider under 25s and have an m3 for £275 but i cant get through to them at the moment! I understand some may see it as a waste of money and thats fair enough- this may have something to do with impressing a girl smile

Can you at least post with a pretense of being helpful? I play golf twice a week. That's bloody expensive, but I enjoy it. Maybe OP will enjoy his car hire experience, assuming he's not also a miserable curmudgeon.

OP, it's probably going to be 25 and older, I'm afraid. There was a thread a while back, posted below, that had somebody looking to hire a Ferrari at 21. He didn't have any luck either.

Thanks mate. I dont want anything as valuable as a ferrari, something more like an m3 or even a 335 convertible. I've just got back from holiday and my family and friends are still away so i'm home alone! The weather is nice and i just fancied a go in something with a bit of spark! Please don't think i'm a typical boy racer 21 year old, i am lucky enough to have driven some very nice cars due to family and friends and in my opinion theres nothing quite like the feeling of driving a very nice car! Went scuba diving on holiday and that cost a pretty penny for not a great deal of dive time so in value for money terms i dont see too much of a problem.

Not at all. I was lucky enough to be driving mums e46 and e92 BMWs since I passed my test, and particularly with the 335, can absolutely understand why you'd want one for the day. They're a peachy car! You might be able to get a 335, though I'd imagine the excess will be exortionate (I'm 25, and my DC5 excess on my own insurance is £850!) so do make sure you drive with some care! smile

This might not end well

Either you impress her with the fancy car and on the second date she finds out its not yours and you were just trying too hard and showing off, in which case she will think you are a berk

or

She'll think you're a berk for having a flash car anyway

or

she'll dig the flash car, think you're loaded and then you have someone who's only partially attracted to you because of your apparent wealth

She should be impressed with you, not the wheels you drive. But having said that, dont hire and M3, get a convertible or something.... SLK, TT, Mini Cooper. Most girls couldnt give a toss what make the car actually is so long as it looks pretty.

Biggest sticking block is likely to be the deposit - most prestige hire companies will ask for a deposit in the thousands, even if the car hire itself only runs to a few hundred.

Good luck. I think you need to be 25 at least to be covered on anything half decent! frown

If he has a credit card this wont be too bad, they just quarantine the money and release it back when you deliver the car back in the condition you got it. I would of thought a 3k credit limit would be ample?

And what, pray tell, is your experience with flash cars and girls?

It is a bit like the Penguins and their piles of rocks - women are attracted to 'flash' cars as they subconciously asscoiate that with success/wealth/financial security for their young.

Yes, you can go too far and look like a berk (e.g. bright yellow lambo), but there is nothing wrong with using all available means to get an opening (pun partially intended).

I think this would impress a girl. I think some of you old timers don't realise how materialistic young women are nowadays. She'll know the car isn't his, and have a great day pretending shes rich and love it. It also shows he's not scared to spend a lot of money to show off (girls love this too) I'd say its a minority of less attractive women they don't like flashy guys. It shouldn't be this way, but it is. Live with it.

Get a M3 convertable and try to not crash while your getting noshed off thumbup

Wow the thread has taken off! Thanks for the replies guys. To clear a few things up, first about the girl... She is not some girl i have just met and am trying to impress by pretending i own a nice car, she is actually an ex gf who i havent seen for a while and who also enjoys fast cars/the finer things in life! Regarding pictures- i am not sure she would be too happy with me if i posted pictures for you all to gawp at!! But yes she is stunning- hence the reason i want her back!

To try and keep this relatively on topic, does anyone know of any companies that would maybe hire a new shape slk or old shape z4 3.0l to someone my age? Bit of extra info as this is a car forum, i currently drive a new shape mini but am waiting until my new job starts in september to upgrade to a 130i!

Cheers all

Hahaha brilliant!! Everything you say is very true! Someone made a comment about women pyschology and i completely agree. It doesnt neccessarily mean they are bad people or they only want your money, they just also enjoy a good time which i think is fair enough!

Advice from a 21 year old to another. For godsakes get the car to impress her and get what you want. You don't want a relationship with a materialistic manipulative girl with expensive tastes. You want fun with her. HTH biggrin

Problem is, would she really be able to differentiate between an M3 convertible and a 320d convertible? My guess would be no.

Something like an Aston/Maseratti would be nice.

OP - how about an extended test drive of an early Maseratti 3200/4200 convertible?

Well if you are in a new shape mini and are planning to switch to a 130i, I'm assuming you are no stranger to your local BMW dealership? (or are these all purchased privately?)

idea

Perhaps speak to them about an overnight test drive of a Z4 (perhaps as a courtesy car whist yours is in for a service?).

A M3 and a 320d yes. A M3 and a 320i with a big exhaust no.
