I heard a story this weekend about a report in a paper saying that TVR were to close down 5 or 6 dealerships because they were not pulling there weight, and that they were looking to set up new dealerships to replace them. Is there any truth in the story?

Yes, TVR gave notice to a number of dealers a while back.

One has to keep the Total TVR factory output in perspective i.e circa 6/800 new cars a year. That output will service 6/8 dealers at 100 new cars p.a or 12/16 dealers at 50 cars p.a. New cars sales at less then 50 cars p.a is hard to support with workshop commitments etc, and would be commercial suicide as a TVR only dealership, so in real terms TVR can't support a dealer network of over 16 at best!!!!, well, not at the moment anyway.

We are connected to a Renault dealership with annual new car sales twice that of TVR's entire production, and that's just a single dealership in a fairly well to do Surrey town.

TVR are very small, in fact the amount of sales they achive doesn't even register on the motor trade new units sold register.

Hi John.

Then there the stories about falling out due to the previous Noble comittments of various dealers, but how accurate this is is open to speculation.

I personally think they would be far better off with ten or so dedicated sales and service outlets positioned thoughtfully enough to cover most of the country, with a lot more factory input to their running.

Oh them....? Just looked at your profile...

I tried very very hard to buy my first Chim from them, and the owner himself refused to let me drive it, despite offering him cash on the spot - excuse given was "I'd have to move two other cars to get it out, and they all drive the same anyway.....!"

I told him that despite the fact this was my first TVR, the three I'd already test driven were noticably different, and frankly if that was his attitude, I'd be looking elsewhere.

"Suit yourself Sir"

Lo and behold, on the way home, I put a deposit on a 98R car at the same money as the aforementioned dealer wanted for his un-test-drivable 94M.....

Bye bye. Rust in Pieces.
