My local dealer has very recently increased his hourly labour rate from £44 to £52+VAT, that's an increase of 18% . So this got me thinking about just how this might compare with other dealers and independent specialists across this green and pleasant land. So come on guy's let me know how your local outfit compare?

Cheers,

My local main dealer charges £45+VAT per hour (currently).

Not sure how this compares with other. Hopefully it's not due for an increase like that though!

The Sunday Times ran this topic for a number of weeks...I recall the most expensive garage labour rate was a VOLVO franchise charging over £100/hour

Audi (main dealer) in Milton Keynes charge £80 + VAT per hour. They’ve had enough from me in the past, but no more…!

It is true that we have recently had to increase our labour rate. One of the factors that influenced this decision was that we were too cheap when compared to the majority of other franchised garages. The other part of the equation is that customers who purchase a car from us are entitled to a 'loyalty' discount of 15% which brings the labour rate down to £44.20. This arrangement will hopefully relect more fairly the time that we spend on sorting cars which come to us as an 'unknown quantity', and the knock on effect that this has on waiting times for customers who purchased their cars from us. I hope that this goes some way to explaining our decision and reassures our existing customers of the situation. Best regards to all.

edited to add : must be working cos I've got two harrogate hc cars in at the moment and no hexham hc cars

sounds a good plan actually .. I spend 50% of my time fixing cars that other dealerships can't .. witness the cerbie in at the moment been 6 times to a southern dealer .. if you get the same cars coming back that you sold then you can offset the sales profit against any labour after that .. the idea i guess is to make your own cars as good as you possibly can so you don't actually have to spend much time on them afterwards .. can only be good news for the customer

Mine might have a HHC sticker on the back but it's not been there for a long long time
I was working on the idea of dispatching 'my man' to come up and strip bits off, repair them and pop them back on when you weren't looking

Tony, does that mean you'll still service mine at £44.20? Oh, I'd expect you to pick it up from Herts, transport it back to me afterwards too all included in the cost

Hope all is well.

Sounding all reasonable don't you think, especially compared to some of those horrible German dealerships, although I suspect the time to repair one of those against our quirky little beasts probably balances things out

Does that mean you increased your prices, not because of higher costs but because others were charging more than you? Just to make more profit then?
