As I was looking at the Westfields in the classifieds I wondered where you would stand with the law if someone where to touch or come into contact accidently with the hot exhaust. As you know the exhausts tend to run along the left hand side of the car and passengers of Westfields and Caterhams etc have to be careful to avoid the exhaust when entering or exiting the vehicle.

For example, say the car was parked alongside a footpath in a town it would be easy for a child to accidently touch it or someone to brush their ankle against it. This is similar I suppose of motorbikes, where a lot of the engine and exhaust systems are exposed.

Where would the owner stand with regards the law in the situation that someone were to burn themselvels upon your exhaust.

On a similar note a man in Bristol tripped over a woodlouse on his way to work this morning, it was on the news and everything!

I imagine the same as with any other car if someone touched the exhaust - their problem not yours. It's obviously been deemed fit for production and passed all the tests. If it was a car you had modified to reroute the exhaust where it was accessible, that may be a different kettle of fish.

Possibly best asking on Biker Banter wink

Never had a problem on bikes - although if I've just arrived somewhere and there's a child going all ooh and aah at the bike I do warn the parents.

Mate of mine got a bking from some parents of a child who ran over to look at his Caterham and subsequently got burnt on his exhaust.

I think his response went along the lines of telling them to control their child and not let it clamber over other people's property.

yes

This irritates me. Parents need to be responsible.
