The place i use (not near you alas) it's simple as...drive unlucky snotter onto bridge, exit and proceed to the office to get the lolly.

Last time i was at the scrappy some old guy drove a very tired looking old Rover 400 ontot the scales and tottered off to the office and then just waled off, not even a lift home! guess he must have lived close by.

Don't forget to obtain a Certificate of Destruction (or the promise of one in the post a few days later, in which case do the 'sold into trade' thing on the V5).

When I weighed my Transit in, they asked me to drive onto the bridge, waved me off, and I went to collect money from the office. They also kept the V5 and gave me the part proving it was scrapped (or the other way around, it was a while ago), and a certificate as well.

I did feel bad walking away from it though, as I always do when I get rid of a vehicle, but I had big plans for that one!

I took my old Prelude to a place in Thame, near the Oxon/Bucks border, back in March, they gave me £150 no questions asked, all they wanted was a log book,(that's a V5 to all you under 30's). doesn't even need to be in your name.

They sent me a certificate of destruction through the post a few weeks later.

So what is (or is not) acceptable to leave in there?

And anyone know how much I'm supposed to get per car?!

I thought you meant being cheeky and filling it with heavy crap to give you more dollar smile

I think you can leave the usual driving detritus in there, wont bother the crusher. Price wise it depends on the car, think around 130 ish for a average eurobox small family car.

Phone them, tell them the make and model of car, they give you a price.

You decide whether you find the price acceptable or not.

[Edit] Leave anything you like in the car, I just gave them a log book and keys, they didn't even look outside to check if I had actually left a car there or not.

I weighed my old E38 in last week in that neck of the woods (Wokingham).

http://www.a1groupcomp.co.uk/

Drove it onto the weighbridge. Go over to geezer in the office - he says "drive it down the bottom". Bloke "down the bottom" assesses cats and wheels, and rings that info back to the office. Go back up to office and get 150/ton, 20 per cat and fiver a wheel. Cash. Handed the whole V5 over to them as they'll scrap it online. Whipped the tax disc out and cashed that in on Monday at the local DVLA office declaring off road at teh same time.

Job jobbed.

Gold always works for me, chuck half a ton under the floor pan and they're none the wiser.

Does the car have to be in your name on the log book (and yes, I am under 30!!) to cash the tax in?

Nope. I did have a minor panic afterwards about cashing the disc in without the V5 present but DVLA don't require it at all. Lucky!

Try www.cartakeback.com
You can get an instant on line quote. They will come and collect and give you the cash. I got £180 for my old Escort couple of weeks ago.

Sounds rather, erm, dangerous really? Surely that just would encourage people to nick tax discs??
