Apols if anything like this exists already - I've not noticed it but I could just be being thick...

Thing is - I keep chancing across interesting 'sheds' but I don't want to start a new thread everytime I find some 'neo-scrap' and so I thought I'd start a thread to post into AND see what other people have been staring at with a mixture of desire and trepidation - wondering "I wonder if it actually runs" smile

No particular rules on price - just stick with cars where you buy them and conduct what someone here once called "managed retreat", watching bits fall off/stop working until it's eventually dead or, at least, mortally wounded.

Shed 1 for your consideration

Part of me shudders in horror - another part of me wonders if it would run long enough just to soak-up the sheer "Sturm und Drang" of the thing...

Just £950 but wheels are extra - but even then - I mean the engine has been RAISED!!

I need a lie down now...

I love the way that whenever the aircon doesn't work it's always "Probably just needs a re-gas" - I don't think I've ever read that and it's actually been just a re-gas!! hehe

When I bought me 405 'shed' I noticed the aircon was dead - the thought of a regas vaguely wafted through my mind but when I took a peek I discovered the compressor/rads/pipes etc. aren't even there!!!!

Seriously tho - it's just over a bag of sand rolling - it's 30 years old - aircon is not really going to matter in the scale of things is it?

If that drives I could get £1000's worth of value just driving it around for a few days with Wagner playing at full volume (well, if the radio works!!)

With you there, it's the daddy of all car advert bullst. £50 to put the buyers mind at rest? Nah I'll just let them take the chance that it's not a £500+ fix...

Second only to 'MOT expires *within 1 month*'.

Both of those just read as - it's fked.

Also.....

The speedo and fuel guages do not work .........but it's never bothered me.

Oh well, that fine then - if it never bothered the current owner, then I must just be really fussy and should snap out of it hehe

Those threads are full of lovely, respectable and useful cars - I'm thinking more of the "OMG it looks amazing but will it make it to the supermarket before exploding/failling apart like a clown car" - but hey ho!

I buy in to that logic.

Thew worst case scenario is that if you look at the £500 snotters, they will cost you about £200 once they have been recycled.

My next planned snotter is an '80s merc SEC biggrin

We might do, but that's a different thing entirely too...

Bangernomics
The science of buying a cheap(ish) car (minimal depreciation left - not necessarily dead-cheap tho) which can be run for little money and will go on for a long time without big bills. Key issues here are high MPG, low cost plentiful parts and a lack of expensive gizmos to worry about.

Shedding
The art of purchasing older/larger/more interesting cars for very little money and running them until they die. This is the 'managed retreat' scenario, you only fix things which are dangerous (or cost nothing to do) - you ignore things like non-working windows or rattles or tears in seats etc. and you drive it until it dies.

Smokers
More expensive sheds, basically, difference being they cost a bit more so you'll be happy to SPEND a bit on them.

None of the above should ever be confused with restoration or preservation of classic cars. Once you start looking at a car and saying "that's quite original, I need to restore it" you enter a parallel universe and whilst I'm not knocking it, the laws of normal behaviour do NOT apply there smile
