Recent events have made me realise that the wife is capable of breaking any car she drives. God know what she does but. She has had my snotter splutter to a halt at the side of the road as the low fuel light doesn't come on, brought the management light on on my other snotter, blown the turbo on her honda diesel, broke the exhaust on the micra etc and thats just the past month.
So i am pushing her towards a warranty with a car included.
This has brought me towards a brand new Hyundia i10
So what are the thoughts on this

We have an i30. Just over a year old, 7500 miles on it now. Went for it's first service and they did 3 recalls on it without asking. Compared to the local Vx dealer who you basically had to threaten to get them to do a published recall.
The car itself puts the Mk2 Focus to shame, far better built, and drives pretty much the same. Only thing I don't like is the seat is quite high even on it's lowest setting - that means when the steering wheel is set high the wheel obscures the fuel and temp dials.
Two recalls were for suspension issues (dropped bump stops on back and faulty front ARB links) and the other was something to do with the ignition barrel that made the central locking go crazy. Ours only went weird once, and that was when the doors wouldn't open but the boot did. Relocking and unlocking cured that.
Otherwise it's quite indestructible - my OH most of the times drives at 25mph in 5th, but sometimes like Sebastian Loeb. The 1.4 petrol (108PS) is surprisingly good at very low revs, far better than the 1.8 Duratec in my Mondeo which is lighter than the i30.
I think the i10 is probably a good little car. We drove one when we were looking at the i30, we didn't get it due to the small boot, and I'd look like Noddy driving it.
I'm sort of toying with buying an ix20 myself in a few months to replace my somewhat tired Mondeo.

My girlfriend and both of her sisters have each got one. They've racked up around 40k between them in 18 months without any issues.
There's a common issue with the headlight levelling mechanism which is as yet unresolved.
I believe every second service is a bit pricey, we've only had the first service on ours which was around £130, older sister claimed something in the region of £350-400 for the second. Warranty invalid without FHSH. Servicing is every 10k/12 months which is quite low nowadays.
It's OK to drive, not really at its best on the motorway, long journeys are a bit of an effort, quite good fun around town and easy to park in a city.
