I've yet to find something that really works...

Have tried plug-ins, burning ones, all different types of creams and sprays (bought both in UK and France)...

Any suggestions folks?

We have used a boots plug in thing and seems to have been ok in the bedrooms of rented villas etc.
This year we bought a strong Jungle Juice spray-this was said to be their strongest formulation. It was horrid to apply and we still seemed to be attacked by the little bds.

Apparently it's all down to how much you sweat and whether you've been drinking beer. The smell off your body attracts them and can overpower repellents.

Some people seem to attract them more than others though.

The issued stuff they give to the Army isn't too bad tbh. Try Army Surplus store?

Anything with Deet in large concentrations should work but is grim stuff.

Avoid Avon Skin So Soft oil spray; everyone thinks it works - it is a big fking lie I promise you from the bottom of my midge bitten heart. 250 blokes getting munched alive due to one bod saying it was the bees knees. Its utter wk!

For a short term holiday - something with a good %age of Deet.

Personally, I just stick with my girlfriend who seems to attract them all so much they leave me alone.

Don't eat bananas either, apparently.

Eat what the locals eat, is also a good idea, if you're there for a long time, anyway. Whichever country I've lived in, it is always the foreigners that seem to get bitten, whereas the loacls seem to get passed over. I reckon their diet is the key here! You eat things that they probably do not, so you stick out like a sore thumb.

I may also be making this up. It's a bit of a guess.

Eat snails, garlic, and burn some sheep before you go. The Mossies won't be able to tell the difference.

If you can supply a recent photo, your net worth and income, your current car details, and a full itinerary she'll take a look and get back to you.

Avon Skin So Soft is used by the majority of Bikers North of the Border so it has to have something going for it as those Scottish midges are right little bstrds, and I use it and it works.
Perhaps they just like the taste of you with the added Avon Cream.

More deet the better for me.

I like the 50% deet jungle formula. Works well - did the 3 peaks back at the end of July, everyone else got bitten to crap and back, I was fine.

If you're sitting outside keep your feet off the ground if you can....basically Mozzies that carry Malaria generally fly very close to the ground until they fly into something at which point they fly vertically...so if you're feet are on the ground they'll either bite you on the leg or fly upwards and bite you somewhere else. I don't think it's the same for a big standard Mozzie...

A mate of mine is an expert on Malaria control...they discovered this when doing research out in Africa and looking at how Mozzies were getting into the huts/houses the local people were living in.

You must all smell like a giant pack of pansies.
I used SSS with some success in Zanzibar but maybe they wouldn't have bitten me anyway. I seemed to get bitten less taking malaria tablets and the worst I've been bitten is here in the UK by what I assume to be horseflies.

I have used Mosi-Guard with excellent results and I am a magnet for Mosquitos, Midges, Horse Flies etc. I have ordered it from my local Boots branch but you can buy it online from Amazon. No Deet in this which is great for regular use. It has worked well for me in the UK and Australia.

I bought one from Boots that had the maximum DEET. Seemed to work quite well out in Thailand, even when staying by the River Kwai or trekking up in Chang Mai.
