Charcoal Cannister

Not sure where you are going to mount your filter or whether it's passive or fan assisted, but I use these for organics and they have really good capacity, way beyond their claimed, and not too big either.

I use a cannister in mine and I am happy to report that I do not suffer from gas fumes in the cockpit, which a few others here have complained of. I tried to source a premade cannister but they were all plastic, round and looked like something in a Noble, yes, that is a slur at the stock plastic Nobles. So finely out of frustration I cut one open all these are is a cannister with a divider in the middle that goes up from the bottom to 80% of the height of the container. the vent line from the filler cap area comes in the bottom on one side. the fumes travel up through the charcoal across the divide down the other side to a vent line that vents to the atmosphere. I built one that fits in the corner and has a cap on it so that I can change the charcoal if it becomes saturated. If you wanted to be really trick yo could run the escaping fumes back into the vacuam side of the motor but I think you would need a one way valve in the system. If you look at the attached picture its the square box with the hexagon fitting mounted on the bulkhead somewhat blocked by the rollgage bar. Lee

Looking at that picture I would be concerned of the life of the Motec unit - they are only rated to 80 deg C - do you get issues with it cutting out? The underclam temperatures will exceed 80 deg C...just something to think about - those units are expensive!I have had the Motec there for three years and never had a problem. I placed it there on the advice of my engine builder who has been building Baja and Paris Dakar motors for many years and putting them in the same place. Actualy the unit is rated for 70c. When I had a Fast intake instead of the Kinsler I data logged the system quite a bit when the car was first completed never saw an inlet tenp above 65c and that probe was a couple of inchs from the unit. The highest temp I ever saw was on the street, not the track. I appreciate your concearn, most of us have built these cars ourselves and one of the values of being part of the community is feedback on our choices in the build.
