I have a 1995 W140 s600. Its a lovely car with everything working soft close,air con etc. I put it on ebay and it only reached £1330. I want £2000 for it am I being unrealistic? The only fault with the car is the paint has gone a little thin in places on the wheels. Your thoughts would be appreciated.Oh, it has full service history and has covered 100676 miles
You're probably not asking enough and not selling in the right place. Try here (i.e. Pistonheads Classifieds) and www.carandclassic.co.uk. Provide as much detail as you possibly can in your advert. Not detail about the w140 generally, but detail about your particular car. I am always impressed when a vendor sets out the service history in full: date, mileage, workshop, a summary of the work done, and the price paid.

Not at all, the colour looks pretty good. If it was Signal Red or, and my stomach is churning at this, the bright yellow I saw in Japan...vomitLooks like a series one with the 4 speed box.
It stuck out since was a 1994 but registered a few years later.
I would not worry too much as a case of right buyer at the right time.
I have found the ad. Being blunt, it is woefully inadequate. You need more, better, bigger pictures. Take the pictures at a scenic location, during the evening "golden hour"", after you have spent half a day cleaning and polishing from top to bottom, inside out. And you need to provide much more information about the car: about 100 x more. A few words aren't enough anymore: buyers dismiss the car as unlikely to be any good if the seller can't be bothered to put some effort into selling it. I am far from convinced that the strongest point is that it was once owned by an embassy. So what? So it was neglected by a bunch of Nigerians for the first 5 years of its life? Again, this is what dodgy vendors of long wheelbase Mercedes say when they haven't got anything else to say.
You need a full description, referring to the colour and trim by name and number; a specification including the code numbers and confirmation that the item works; a detailed service history; a list of previous owners and dates (surely any enthusiast spends £5 at the DVLA for this?). You need a lot more on condition: there must be some defects and you don't even say what brand of tyre is fitted and how much tread is left.

My father has recently brought his W140 S500 Silver/blue 1993 110K miles up to good condition using the Mercedes specialist Vikings and a local bodyshop. Renewing all the rusty suspension, new spheres, replacing front wings and fixing a few other bits has come to at least £4000. To make it perfect the wheels will be refurbed at Lepsons and there is a small AC leak which needs attention. Some people may think that this is a waste of money but after doing large miles in it myself there isn't a place I'd rather be (newer S classes included).

It is a 6 litre V12. It has nearly 400bhp. It is a 2 ton limo that accelerates like a scalded cat and will hit 155mph without even breaking a sweat.
But people know all this so....why call?
They are looking for the £1000 bargains (which don't exist anymore) and use "fuel consumption" as the excuse.
Managed ~30mpg with four people and luggage over 900 miles. The S500 was shocking around town but excellent at 80-90 mph on the autobahns. Still good for 140mph +
