Hi there,
I have a Lifeline plumbed in system for mine. It has 6 nozzles, 4 will be in the engine bay, I under the dash and one near the front battery. After 6 years of build, I could not bear the thought of watching it burn on the side of a motorway, so in my opinion, £200 for such a system is a sound investment. I have the same system in my racing Davrian. Thankfully I have never used it.

I have a Spa system that contains aquais fluid. The medium used as a redartant is important so do your homework. Another reason I think a fire system on the Ultima makes sense is either under your own power or being taken out of the car by someone else its going to take more time than a conventional door system. I was in a fire in a helicopter in Vietnam and believe me you don't want to go there. Lee
I had a plumbed in Lifeline system in the GTR however, I also carried a hand held extinguisher as the Lifeline system was total loss ie, once you set it off it will keep going until empty - this is VERY messy. The handheld was in case of a small fire minimising damage caused by the extinguisher (as well as the fire obviously).

I would recommend a 2KG, hand held, dry powder extinguisher.
The plumbed in extinguisher is great for inside the car but no good for something that is on fire outside of the car (say a leaking fluid on fire underneath the car or even something like a plastic bag or dry grass that has been picked up) and completely OTT for something minor like a cable melting and catching on fire where you just want a quick puff of powder to knock the flame down.
Also make sure the hand held is well secured with a metal bracket with a latch and is within reach with seatbelt on and in your normal driving position. It is no good to you in the boot or way down in the passenger foot well if you are stuck.

Side pods perhaps yes, but I imagine the best place to have an extinguisher handy would be on the bulkhead between the seats
