Hi all,
Car has been running lately at 50-60 degrees on motorway. Rises to 70 on A roads.
Fans cut in and out at 90 when stationary. Suspect thermostat stuck open.
Probably going to change thermostat, but which one do you recommend.
Although these cars are known to have inaccurate temp gauges what should the actual normal running temp be.
Surely if it is running to cold, the ECU detects it to cool and will be compensating and enriching the mixture.
Any suggestions.

hi, had some running cool issues with mine a while back,on inspection i found the the thermostat was opening early(around 60degs weak spring i think / orriganal stat) fitted a thermostat/otter switch purchased from racing green (rg part no tvr ECK2) new radiator (separate issue due to slight leak !)and now when running steady speeds runs around 70degs(on gauge) and 80-90degs when in trafic (fans keeping temp stable switching on/of at regular times), also fitted new temp sender from rg (part no TVR NO125)just to make sure the gauge is as "BELEAVEABLE" as poss (have confirmed gauge readings to be +/- a few degs as have ir temp sensor gun) i thnink the thermostat and otter(fan)switch are the lower temp compared to origanals but still ensure that the engine runs warm enough to be out of the enrichment peramiter, others will be along no doubt with answers as well im sure but this cured my running too cool probs, the temp gauge while reasonably accurate in my car is slow to react to temp changes i beleave due to tvr"s location of temp sender down a blind take off not directly in coolant flow ,a quick tip if changing temp sender is to remove the brass adapter that houses sender and make sure that the small feed hole is clear of any seddiment to ensure the coolant has direct contact with sender as mine was 1/3 blocked on inspection .
hope this helps, good luck,

I have a similar issue, changed the thermostat, but I think it is opening to early, because on the motorways the temp sits at 72° in traffic 86° to 92°.
My question is – if the engine is running at 70° ish will this cause the ECU to think that it requires more fuel as the engine is not hot, because mine is using a lot more fuel than before?
