Online tyre suppliers + local "approved fitters"
Discussion
Had an interesting day yesterday getting 4 tyres fitted. I'll just state the facts and see what / if anyone else thinks about it.
FAO mods, I am just going to state facts which I can back up with evidence. There is no opinion, no interpetation, no slander so I'm hoping you see this doesn't fall under the "Name and Shame" rule.
I ordered four tyres from MyTyres.co.uk. This site sells tyres mail order. They have a system whereby you can enter your postcode and a list of garages is shown, sorted by distance from the postcode.
Garages who want to be listed can apply, and somewhere in that process the garage supplies MyTyres with details of the fitment charge per tyre (and per size of wheel in some cases).
MyTyres.co.uk charges you the cost of the tyres and delivery. The cost of fitting the tyres to your wheels is between the buyer and the chosen garage, although MyTyres.co.uk do include the garages quoted price on the website and in the order conformation email.
I bought 4 tyres and had them delivered to Car + Tyre Services, Glyn Square, Wolverton, Milton Keynes.
Their quoted fitment cost on MyTyres website was £14.10 per tyre, disposal of old tyre inclusive, same price for all sized wheels.
Made appointment to have them fitted.
Arrived at 8.30am, said who I was, tyres were there. I was told the fitment cost would be £19 per tyre.
I presented the invoice, which states that the customer should show the garage the invoice to be eligible for the discounted price.
Garage staff and manager refused to honour the price.
I left and then phoned MyTyres who said they do not control the prices the garage charge and all I could do is take the tyres elsewhere.
Went back to the garage, the manager said he had looked at the website, agreed that their garage was listed the lower with the price, and that he had emailed MyTyres to get his garage taken off their website.
After considering the small difference in price and the hassle of taking the tyres elsewhere and arranging a fitment date I let this garage fit them for £19 per tyre.

So that is what happened.
I know an advert is an "invitation to trade" by the dealer and they can choose not to honor it (as is the case with mis prices by online shops)
What about the relation between the MyTyres website and the garage in this case?
After this had happened I emailed the website and they emailed me back apologising and have refunded the difference between the quoted price and the actual price, but I've no idea if that was good customer relations or if they are legally obliged to do that?
I am guessing that the garage registered themselves a few years ago and have had that little business they'd completely forgotten about it and hence forgotten to update the fitment price.
And the website made sure I'm not out of pocket.
So no "blame" or "shame" anywhere.

camskills.co.uk to buy tyres, take tyres to local garage that you use
No fuss
MyTyres are cheaper, and the Sunny tyres that I got have better reviews than the FullRun and Rotalla tyres. No fuss
I'm actually suprised at these things, they have as good a grip in this shed as any branded tyre for the speed I pootle around in it at. My opinion might change come the wet and cold, but in the dry they're fine.
