I haven't put this in Advanced Driving as I'd probably be panned hehe

However, I was driving along this road the other day:

That view is pretty much my position at the relevant time. It was the weekend, so fairly quiet on the roads. As I approached the junction there was a car waiting at the junction where the Passat is, slightly proud of the give way lines so looked like he was going to barge in front of me.

As a result I slowed slightly. I wasn't prepared to concede priority unless forced to do so, but was prepared to react. Then, as I was at the point where the picture shows, the car started pulling out fairly fast. Therefore, hand went to horn and I stopped sharply.

Car pulled straight onto the offside of the road nearest it (Marked by the red star)- Obviously to pop into Tesco or something- And the bloke driving looked at me like I was a lunatic.

Did I over-react or was his driving not up to par?

No real reason not to be courteous, and as you're in a city centre its a bit of dog-eat-dog. Just chill man.

Sounds like a normal day driving to me? Why stress yourself? Just forget about it and get on with your day.

Must...not...unleash...grammar Police!

Anyway, it's not something I've necessarily been dwelling on, just like to be a bit critical of my own driving and think about how I would approach situations differently in the future. Perhaps this should have gone in AD section? scratchchin

I've heard the phrase, if you've time to use the horn it wasn't close enough. Still, it offends people when you use the horn so it does have some effect.

As others have said be a bit more relaxed, you pre-empted it possibly didn't need to beep him. I don't know why but what you have described seems to happen a lot at that junction.

It may be an everyday event for some in the big smoke or wherever but AFAIC if someone pulls out and forces you to 'brake abruptly' then they're inconsiderate and

dangerous. What you do then however is up to you..

I'd of let him out. However, if I'd of decided not to for whatever reason I'd of reacted in a similar way.

"I wasn't prepared to concede priority unless forced to do so...." That's your problem I think, aggression.
He was trying to get out of a junction, probably been waiting for ages, hence the edging forward, in the hope that someone will be courteous enough to let him out. He sees you slow down, so as he pulls out saying "cheers mate" you blast him with the horn.

Relax, did it make you late for your appointment?

So this "issue" affected you so badly, you returned to the scene of the "crime", took a picture and then went on to ask a load of complete strangers whether you should have reacted differently to the way you did. You must be a very interesting person to socialise with rolleyes

live and let live man.

i'd have slowed and let him out. Relax and be curtious, you'll live longer, and the world will be a nicer place.

so yes, probably an overreaction.
