A Red Arrow aeroplane has crashed in Dorset following a display at the Bournemouth Air Festival.

The fire service confirmed they were called to an air crash at 13:50 BST near Bournemouth International Airport.

A BBC producer at the scene said he saw only eight of the nine Red Arrows RAF display team's aircraft land on the runway at the annual event.

They had earlier taken part in a display over the seafront. No details are known about possible casualties.

BBC South Today producer Martin Webster said it was thought to be the RED 4 that crashed in an open area at Throop village, near the Castlepoint shopping centre.

Apparently it's crashed into or near the Castlepoint shopping centre. I'm in Poole, lots of sirens...

Landed in a field and carried on into the river.

Pilot was airlifted to hospital.

Hope they're ok!

Odds on, then, that the pilot stayed with the plane to avoid the shopping centre. All credit to him and so glad he has survived. Give that man a medal.

Let's hope that the pilot is ok and that the jet didn't take anyone out when it hit the ground.

Or perhaps he just thought he could get it down in one piece, the landing glide paths for the main runway at Bournemouth dont go over Castlepoint....
