Hi,
During a clear out of my fathers garage I have found these very old wooden cones. Can anyone identify what they are for. My best guess is that they are to swage lead pipe before soldering. They could be kids spinning tops but I don't think so. They probably belonged to my grandad who was a bit of a jack of all trades, (blacksmith, sign writer etc)
The largest cone is about 3.5" long and 2" diameter at the top.
Anyone got any ideas. Thanks in advance.

They are dollies for dressing out the ends of the old lead plumbing pipes.

He's right, that's exactly what they are. Like many old lead working tools, they are made from lignum vitae, which is quite interesting stuff.
