in need of help with my new toy - vixen S4
Discussion
Hi everyone, I've recently purchased a vixen S4 and need a bit of advice.
1) drivers side trunnion very stiff (car has been off road for 21 years). Is the front suspension easy to strip down and overall or is it best to replace. Are there any manuals out there or guides explaining how to do the job.
2) Webasto sunroof needs a recover, any ideas who can do this sort of job, I'm in Lichfield, Staffs.
The car passed it's MOT with very little work, new brakes, and simple recommisioning. Now it's just about improving on what I've got and enjoying a great little car.
cheers everyone

Rebuilding the front suspension is not difficult. The parts are pretty much all available.
I think the S4 trunions are triumph Spitfire/Herald, just like the other Vixens. The parts are easily available from a number of suppliers.
You need to be careful that it's not just the trunion thats gone, because the bottom end of the upright has a thread that screws into the trunion and when the trunion goes, sometimes this allows water into the threads and then the thread rusts and becomes pitted. The thread will then act as an abrasive on the next new trunion and wear that out too.
Another important point: the trunions and uprights are swapped over on the Vixens. Right hand trunion and upright goes on Left hand side of the Vixen.
This link takes you to a list of Vixen parts that I have found useful:

Re the Webasto sunroof: I believe there are several places you can get this done. No doubt those vastly more knowledgable than I will be along soon..........

If it is an S4 vixen with M Chassis then I think the Trunnions / Uprights are TR6 based !
Ah, OK then scratch the aboveTold you there were people on here more knowledgable than me!

You still need to be careful with the upright though!
ETA: Yep quite correct, should have checked first!

For your sunroof try http://www.thetrimmingcentre.co.uk/page/tudor_weba... As far as I know they are the only people that still repair them and sell parts for them.
Always loved the Vixens and have secretely promised myself that if my garage is ever empty, I would love to get hold of a complete Vixen needing refurb and go to town on it. Trouble is there are so few cars out there even in poor/SORN condition. Hope you get her back where she belongs, in the fast lane!
