Adopted or Unadopted road?
Discussion
How would one find out whether a road, drive, street, etc. is adopted or not?
And although, as I understand it, a council doesn't have to maintain an unadopted road, do they have any jurisdiction over cars (e.g. fines, towing, etc) parked on an unadopted road?
Search function is up the swanny again.

Council and highways agency have it.
Until it is adopted say it's a new housing close until the council adopt it every home owner in that close is liable.
The last place I lived in was 8th when we bought it but the street road street lighting hadn't been adopted likewise the water mains and sewers.
I spoke to all the residents during a neighbourhood watch meeting highlighting it hadn't been completed and what did that mean to us as owners. Ie total risk of any costs and what it would mean if it were adopted ie no risk ad we don't lose anything. So I spoke to the council and Thames water made some noise and both were adopted within 3 months.
Thanks I got for doing it- none but well worth it took any cost risk away from us plus when it comes to selling the property it's one less question to deal with.

Responsibility remains with the builder or landowner until the road is adopted.
And if they are bust???Our builder just wouldn't replace street lights which had blown.
As soon as the council adopted it I called the number reporting lights out then within a week all repaired.

Well that is a different argument. The homeowners wouldn't have a legal obligation - the landowners still would. Whether the homeowners took it upon themselves for expediency is another matter.Welshbeef said:

Well I am amazed that the council adopted it then. When we've had roads adopted there is always a final inspection after the defects period. Everything has to be working, no cracked kerbs etc.As soon as the council adopted it I called the number reporting lights out then within a week all repaired.
In reality, you end up with a different highways inspector with a whole different opinion on what needs doing and you end up doing extra stuff just to keep him happy and get it signed off.
