Standard vauxhall part - why not upgrade to alloy stalks at the same time as they look much better....

Vauxhall Cavelier Saloon - no rear wash wipe. Might be worth talking to a TVR dealer as I've heard they are getting a bit hard to get in that most Vauxhall delaers don't stock them anymore.
Undo covers (three recessed screws underneath), switch wiring plugs in and the switch itself just clips into place. Might need to unscrew the column adjustment handle.

If it's just the stalk and not the gubbins at the end of it I'd go for alloy levers - I've had mine for a few years now and whenever I see a TVR or Lotus with Vauxhall stalks it reminds me of how nice the alloy ones are (Leven are my preference, but Zertec do some as well - your choice).

Trefor - I've been thinking about those Leven Alluminium stalks for a while (as I've got just about all the other Leven bits) - are they easy to fit and do they make the switching action feel more positive? I find the original Vauxhalls can feel a bit tactily challenged or spongy.

Leven say thy feel better but do they and do I need a weekend of cursing to fit 'em? (like the airvents).

Cheers,

- A.

Easy to fit with a bit of care, in my experience. Slightly more solid feel, given tat they're solid metal rather than plastic. Looks so much better though.

If you need a complete new stalk I have a brand new one that I ordered by mistake! Cost me £15.39 from TMS, yours for £10 plus postage.

I agree with Manek - the stalks are a bit harder, but I really love the feel of the Leven ones coupled with the Vauxhall mechanism. This is quite 'soft' and this to me is great (compared with the clunky Ford type).

I've got the zertec ones - bought them off Ted, cheers and dead easy to fit.

I much prefer them to the Leven ones - I keep getting asked if I've got a paddle shift gearbox fitted......

They get the same reply about the brake balance adjuster in the Chimaera......

I have the Leven ones, but haven't fitted them. My main worry is that at the moment the sculpting on the existing plastic stalks means I can flick the right-hand stalk with my little finger or ring finger. The Leven ones are very rounded and probably slippy too, so I guess I wouldn't be able to do that any more.

I would send the Leven ones back (or resell them) and get the Zertec ones, apart from the fact that the Leven ones were bought in a kit that contained the stalks, steering wheel screws, wiper knob and steering adjuster knob, and I have fitted all but the stalks. They're therefore not really in a returnable or saleable state since they're in the wrong box.

Don't suppose anyone has the box for the stalks-only kit from Leven that they don't want, do they?

Anyone, where do you get the non-black steering wheels from?

I like the look (saw one of the wooden ones in a car on the Mole Valley web-site, just dont want the wooden bit!), and the rest of my cabin is ali leven stuff anyway, so it would look cool...actually, if i was going to do it properly, I'd want a leather color-coordinated one, anyone know where and how much???

Cheers

Does anyone know if it's possible to swap the wiper/indicator mechanisms around i.e. have the indicators on the right side of the steering wheel, and the wipers on the left?

I've always preferred that setup and was wondering if anyone has done it successfully, and whether there are any implications (legal/insurance etc)

Thanks for any help.

Jon,

If you still want to sell them I am not bothered about the box they come in, as I will only fit them anyway

Although a photocopy of any fitting instructions would be appreciated.

Mail me if you are intrested and we can haggle over price

It is possible but difficult as the self-cancelling indicator function (a cam on the steering column) needs to be modified as well. I looked at this when I redid the Griffith dash in 1996-1997 but didn't have time to do it.

Can't envisage legal problems as Japanese (and some other RHD cars including the Cerbera) have the indicator on the right which is the logical place on RHD vehicles.

Colour coded leather steering wheels are/were a factory fit option for Griff/Chimaera. You could always try the factory, thay might sell them separately.
