Numpty tyre / rim question

after the OH managed to 'explode' an inner tube on her ( brought from halfords without my knowledge) bicycle and trying to fix aftermentioned problem with a 26* 1.75-2.25 tube i had at home ( well the tyres on the bike are 1.95s) and failing dismally what size tyres/ tubes would normally be fitted on a rim that is 23 mm outside to outside and 19 mm between flanges ....

26 in wheel - the tyres fitted on the bike by the OEM / halfords are 1.95*26

fitting the tube and the tyre into the rim without pinching at the point the valve is , spent ages trying to do it without pinching the tube or without the tyre sitting unevenly on it's bead ...

maybe it's just my sausage fingers just i'm used to wider rims than that for these kinds of tyre + tube combo

Have you tried inflating the inner tube a wee bit before you fit it? It might help seat it all.

Aha, start diametrically opposite the valve and make sure as you fit the tyre you move it to the centre of the rim as this reduces the overall dia.... When you get to the valve you can use it to push the tube away from the rim slightly to avoid pinching. If you get it right you shouldn't need levers to get a tyre on.
