As for 20mm down to 19mm, it could fit but if I were using a quality strap, I am not sure I'd want to damage it.

cheers gents, what strap would you recommend, im also tempted by NATO straps, as is everyone else here it seems
Not everyone - IMO they turn a nice watch into something from a army surplus store!

That's the point, isn't it? It's not supposed to look flash, fashionabl or impressive.
Sure - and on a Monster or a GShock or something I suppose it would look ok in a "my strap bust and all i had was this to make do with way" .... but when people stick them on Omegas, Rolex, etc they seem to miss the point that those watches ARE flash, fashionable and impressive (like it or not!) Putting remold tyres on your Ferrari doesn't make it "rugged and functional"Hey, each to their own!

Depends on the Omega and Rolex... they were used in military circles so a Sub or SMP on a Nato isn't a bad thing. A diamond-encrusted date-just OTOH...RemainAllHoof said:

They are, and if you're forces and like to take your £4k watch behind enemy lines then fair enough. But a "normal" wearing a watch that is modified because it better suits it's roll when worn in combat is a bit like fitting a cage to the front of your mondeo because you saw the police do it with their vans in croydon.I suppose it's one of those things i just dont get. If i want to look "tuff" I'll wear my Frogman or Protrek or Monster I wouldnt replace the £500 strap on my £2k PO with some nylon.
The NATO strap was worn traditionally on military watches as these generally only had fixed bars instead of spring bars.

But there is an undeniable practicality about them, as they retain the watch head if a spring bar should fail.

Buzz and company wore a velcro strap that was the approved design from NASA
