For the interior designers of PH - I need a new rather large rug.

Unfortunately some pleb got rather drunk and knocked a shisha over resulting in some big burns in the carpet and current rug.

I am planning on replacing the carpet sometime next year after having a wall knocked through, so no point in changing the carpet now.

I need a rug that covers an area of 6'8" X 9' (203cm X 275cm) to cover the burns. I have a budget of ~£250.

I would really like a nice soft rug that's nice to walk on, but not one of these recently popular shag style rugs with loose fibers.

Here's a couple of pictures of the living room to help!

The fireplace is however now black :

Don't you get neck ache staring up at your its-not-a-Panasonic telly?

Yes, but the fireplace is going to go eventually so the TV will be put much lower down. And for the time being it's the only place I felt the TV would look any good due to the crap design of the layout of the room.

No suggestion on a new rug then I take it.

ETA - not-a-panasonic - I don't quite get the relevance of that comment?

It's not my TV, I am keeping it while a friend is back with his parents, and will be replacing it when I need to.

I could quite easily go and buy a Sony, Panasonic, B&O etc, but having moved into my first house about a year ago, there's better things I wish to spend my money on.

Maybe I should do like most, and put a large 60" 3D tv on credit... actually, no.. I think I'll stay debt free wink

Not very good on soft furnishings I'm afraid. Would you prefer solid colours or after a pattern of some description. It's a very subjective decision is it not. Suggest you get down to a local department store or have a browse on Ikea?

Habitat stores (many of which closing down) had some bargains over the last few weeks; big, high quality wool ones.

Finding a rug is not the problem, it's finding one that's big enough that seems to be a little more difficult!

Well I was thinking something not too dark, as the sofa's and black fireplace make the room feel quite dark.

The walls will be painted white eventually, so I thought something which compliments the current colours without being too dark.

I was tempted with a black rug with a funky but minimal red pattern running through it, but I am a little worried that I would be overdoing the red/black thing then.

It's times like this that a woman's advice would come in handy!
