So I think I'm finally (maybe) settled on an MX5 as a track day toy.

I'm thinking a Mk1 as they are the lightest and most likely an import to give me the best chance of avoiding the rust issues.

However, what's the best version to use as a basis for a track day toy? Do I look for the most solid one possible? Or do I look for limited editions with go faster bits on? There is an RS in the classifieds that's taken my fancy. I think in time I'd like to either super or turbo charge it, so that needs to be considered.

Any advice is welcome!

Mk1 eunos & throw away the air con. If you get decent interior you can flog it to get some money back. Buy on condition, rust is your enemy! People prefer the revvy 1.6 but I'd take the 1.8 over it any day.

Would you also suggest that I shouldn't be swayed by anything that has an LSD or fancy suspension as I'm most likely to upgrade these in time?

What's the best place to look for the cost of upgrades etc? Just so I can work out the rough vales of upgrades that are already on the cars...

I would say aim for one of the imports that has LSD and the Bilstein suspension out of the box if you are looking to keep costs down. The S-Special, S-Special Type II, RS-Limited (although that is unlikely to be cheap), neither is the R-Limited. These specials are a little more focused.

Hopefully going to speak to him tomorrow. I like the look and description. What questions are left unanswered from the advert?

I don't know if that is a good price or not for a MK2 RS (although I think it is) but that seems like such a great car from the advert!

I WANT IT. yum

That looks like a superb car but it would be a massive waste to buy it then strip it out frown

I don't think it would get stripped out, I do have a heart! If I was to get a special edition I would try and keep it true to it's original form.

Are the TR Lane rollbars generally considered the best ones for trackdays? I know there are the TT like fashion ones, but outside of that what are the main differences?

It looks nice, I do prefer the look of the red one though, there is something about the wheels and the colour!
