Whilst the amount paid for Autonomy seems a tad on the high side, are the current prices for HP realistic?

23.60 looks like good value already, much further to fall here?

These could go either way, the reason they feel is the CEO just seems to depress every major shareholder and seems not to offer any good news

I just looked up 6% but that's probably High Frequency trades (machines), it impossible to call but as an investment sentiment alone is going to be difficult with this one. I used to be go against the market but these days go with momentum, look at Apple everyone loves it and therefore finds support

Their price to earnings ratio is very low at the moment (5.84) for a tech company, but that's probably due to a non revised earnings figure.
They have taken nearly a 40% beating this year, so probably low enough so start thinking about it...

On the other hand, they have a beta of 1.20, so you are better off buying the S&P index rather than stock picking. You get all of the risk with none of the benefit picking stocks.

Look at it this way, the company could buy back all it's shares in the next 5 years, it's generating $10b a year in cash-flow.... Will HP still be around in that timescale - highly likely
