Jaguar Automatic Gearbox Oil Change ?
Discussion
Hi,
So happy with the S-type and just looking to give it a service for my own piece of mind (was service 3500miles ago but 10 months ago).
I have all the service history receipts with the car but none of them mention a gearbox oil change. So at 70,000miles thought this might be worth doing ?
So my question to PH'ers. Is it worth doing a Oil and Filter change on the Auto Box. If so anyone done this got any advice or instructions ?
Thanks

I believe you change the entire sump, as the gearbox filter is integral to sump.
It's worth doing, made a massive difference in change quality to have some new oil in there.
Make sure you are sitting down when you hear the per litre cost of the Jag ATF fluid.
New sump, oil+ labour at an independent garage was from memory £250-300 all in when i had it done 2 years ago.

Two schools of thought here. One is to change, other is to leave well alone...! I would suggest that if you do go for a change, you head to a Jag independent specialist or better still, an automatic transmission guru. These cars need special oil, and even to be filled at the correct temperature.
If it still changes as seamlessly as it did when it was brand new, I would leave it alone. Some oil and deposits will be retained in the torque converter, and should a change of oil move internal deposits around the box, this could spell doom. Sadly, on sealed for life boxes, there is an element of 'damned if you do and damned if you don't.
I am running an auto 330i BMW at the mo with 100k on the clock. It still shifts brilliantly so I see no reason to touch it.

I believe Jaguar, and Land Rover, like ZF the manufacturer, recommend 60K oil changes.
Only BMW maintain it is lifetime oil, but not so with BMW NA (US/Canada) who advocate a 100K change interval.
Was speaking to BirdsAuto earlier about the E65s, and they do a double flush - so as said, tranny specialist is advised, and you can find ones specifically ZF approved on the UK website.
