I drove back from someone's house late last night and 2 minutes up the road my car lost pretty much all power and started to run like a complete dog - the yellow engine light appeared. I called the AA and the bloke plugged in the diag computer and the codes are P1348 and P1349. He tried to clear them but the issue remains. I googled the errors and its related to cylinder 4 misfiring. The AA bloke recons its the coils and looks like it could be after searching the tinterwebs.

I've ordered a ignition coil and spark plug which I will fit tomorrow.

The thing that's worrying me a bit is other people who have had this issue say the car isn't running too bad. My car is running like st. Will not rev past 3k rpm and lurches all over the place. Could there be any other issues?

Well, swapped out the ignition coil and its sorted! biggrin

It did worry me a bit as it was running sooo rough.

Took about 20 minutes and cost me £40 - wounder how much that would have been at the stealers?

Same thing happened again a couple of days ago frown Swapped out the coil on cylinder 6 this time.

The standard coils really are rather st. Replaced with bosch ones now.

I don't think this is that common - maybe a bad batch in your car - or replaced cheaply previous to your ownership? I had two go this way on my 330i, but my M has been rock solid, as was my Z4 previously. At least they aren't like the VW / Audi / Seat 1.8T engines which seem to need coil packs like M cars need petrol wink
