Gower is a must.We stayed at the Oxwich Bay Hotel, its right on the beach.Recommend the Hotel and the area especially in September as it gets less busy (the roads are all narrow). Rhossili on the Gower.

We love going to St. David's. Great walks, lovely beaches, and a lively town (well city really). If you want just a B&B, then we've stayed at The Waterings, which is about a 5 min walk to the centre.
We're just back from St Davids, I practically fell in love with the place.I have relatives nearby who recommended Barafundle though, sadly we didn't make it, but it must be worth a punt.
Whitesands and Newgale are a must if you want to surf or bodyboard though, epic stuff.
Quick picture of me and my lad at Whitesands
Barafundle is regarded by some as the best beach in the area, it's a bit of a trek to get to with kids though. If your up for a walk, try Traeth Llyfn, just North of St David's or Marloes sands south of Newgale. The masses don't make the effort to get to these.
IMO the Gower beaches, although not as many, has everything further West has to offer (but then I would say that!!)

Wife, two small kids and myself have just got back from a week down this neck of the woods.
Stayed in a small cottage in Porthgain. Nice little harbour village with a good pub, The Sloop (gets a bit busy for food, you should book) and a fish & chip bistro, The Shed (very nice, but quite expensive for what is just fish & chips. They do other fancier stuff which is also very nice). Wandering along the coastal path turned up an isolated, deserted (when we found it) beach, which was very pretty with big black slate poking through the sand.
Spent a couple of days down at Whitesands too. Really pretty beach, with facilites, so very convenient.
St Davids is a pretty little town, and the cathedral is incredible. You struggle to compute how such a huge gothic monstrosity came to rest in such a small, remote place. Had dinner at Cwtch one night after the wife had read very good reviews online. Came away appreciating the service and atmosphere, but not bowled over by the food, considering the prices. If you like quiet and nature, would recommend a boat trip over to Ramsey Island, an RSPB reserve. They take two boatloads of people over each day, about 35 people, so you can wander round it hardly seeing another soul.

Fairbourne has a lovely beach and just a 5 minute ferry over to Barmouth. If you're coming from the south through Dolgellau there is a little mountain road that gives an amazing view down onto the estuary/bay. It was featured on the adverts for visit Wales that were on the TV a year or two ago. Just up the road from Fairbourne towards Tywyn there is a little campsite on a hairpin bend that I stayed at as a kid and dolphins were regularly seen in the sea there. Good driving road too with good views of the sea over the little stone wall.

Stuff
Would echo your sentiments above, and at the Sloop, we were lucky enough to sit on the locals table complete with rope to pull
Porthgain was lovely, we spent a few hours crabbing off the harbour wall.
Was the beach you found betweeen Porthgain and Aber(something) if so, I think I know which one you're referring to.

That's the puppy!Superb huh?
I can't wait to go back to Wales.
Stayed in LLangrannog a couple of times. Absolutely gorgeous little village with a couple of belting B roads into it. If you want self catering look at www.westwalesholidaycottages.co.uk
About 10 miles north of Ceredigon so shopping is not too bad.
Apparently they do a bonfire on the beach with fireworks from the cliffs on either side. Missed it by a week last year!

Highly recommend Manorbier and the surrounding area. Spent most of my childhood holiday there and go back most years. There's a fabulous family run almost Fawlty Towers (in the nicest possible way) hotel at the head of Manorbier bay called Castlemead Hotel. It sits between the anvient curch on one side of the bay and Manorbier Castle on the other.
Even if you don't stay at the Hotel make sure you drop in for dinner one evening and say hello to Geoff and Lorna (Geoff runs an outside catering Co and Lorna teaches catering at a local college) from Alan and Alison.
Avoid Tenby in the evening during the high season unless you like drunks and pubs with doormen. It's fine during the daytime if a bit old fashioned british holiday town.
Freswater East and Barafundle are also great and Stackpole Quay (park here to walk to Barafundle) has a nice teashop run from the old boathouse.
I miss thaose places most days.

That looks like Traeth Llyfn to me. Long set of metal stairs down to the beach from the costal path? If you go again another secluded beach to look out for is Druidston Haven Either park at Nolton Haven or Broad Haven and walk round the coast path to get to it. You can also swim round from Nolton but you need to be a very strong swimmer as there is a strong current. Great for kids as it's very easy to find fossils on the beach. Superb huh?
