Whats up with my ear?

Comes and goes the pain....but basically I get a pain like someone has stabbed me right in my ear every 2 to 10 mins. Lasts a few seconds and then OK.
I am OK in myself, no fever etc, but had this for 4 days now and getting a bit fed up with it-seems worse in the evening........
Any ideas from the gurus on here?

Went to see the Doc, she says that there is so much wax she cant see if there is an infection or not.
Suggested tipping oil in for a few days and the getting them syringed. Problem is the first appt for that is the 5th Sept and I am in fookin pain here.
Even had to work from home today and will have to tomorrow as well-stabbing opain hurts damn it! And I will turn into a Nurofen if I carry on taking more.
Should I go back?

I think I would be inclined to go back and maybe see another doctor if possible. I'm like you, when you are there with the GP you accept what they say even if you know it isn't going to help. If there is so much wax then I'm surprised they didn't prescribe something a bit stronger to attack the wax more actively, but they may have their own reasons.
I realise their reasons for being conservative with antibiotics, but I think when someone is clearly in quite a lot of pain then the balance of caution has to swing in the other direction. Do you have a local drop-in centre you could go to?

Oil (vegetable, olive, sunflower but not castrol GTX) in the ears is an acceptable way of getting rid of the wax. From what I was taught other remedies are just expensive and no better.
Antibiotics are not always needed for an ear infection.
With less wax in your ears the pain may get better.
Your appointment is in about 10 days time which should give the oil plenty of time to work.
Take some painkillers (paracetamol and ibuprofen, follow instructions on the boxes) for the pain, use the oil. If you get a temperature, become unwell, or things get worse go back.
