After test driving and buying a BMW 330d i started to like diesels.
However i know the 330d isnt the end of the road.. but maybe a chipped 335d ?

Is there something faster out there?

too bad its a on a SUV.. i dont think it could outrun a lighter 335d, because of the Brick aerodynamic.

Plenty of cummins/duramax engined american pickups would show a 335d a clean pair of heels (and a massive cloud of black smoke...) in a straight line.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZPapgCxfr7Q&fea... to show just one of many...

335d

0-62 6.0s
1/4 Mile 13.8s

Q7 V12TDI

0-62 5.5s
1/4 Mile 13.1s

So although I haven't driven them, the figures would suggest that the brick is quicker.

Diesels aren't about speed, they are about running under full load all day, then doing it again tomorrow. Not that those little diesels they put in cars could cope with that.

Are Audi building this?

The pedigree of the V12 itself makes all of that worthwhile. The twin-turbo unit is closely related to the engine that powers the R10 Le Mans winner, and it produces 1,000Nm of torque from only 1,750rpm.

Capable of firing the car from 0-62mph in only 4.2 seconds and on to a top speed of 200mph

Twin turbo diesel Chevelle.

Don't need to tell you how much power there is, just look at the width of those rear tyres eek

The 5.0 V10 TDi in the Phaeton is supposed to be pretty mind blowing.

I was under the impression it's slower then the A8 because the A8 is made from aluminium and therefore considerably lighter.

I know my 4.0 tdi A8 is pretty quick and delivers all its torque from 1200rpm meaning quick acceleration is instant. I can imagine the Phaeton must be pretty good too, especially with more torque.

Nice one Seeker UK, I love someone who researches, before putting foot in mouth, like S3000.

Yes, my Merc 220cdi, top speed about 137mph wink

Probably some of the fastest diesels would be the Audi and Peugeot GT racers.
