'Clicking' BB / Pedals

I've recently fitted some new DMR V8's to my bike, and after the first couple of rides with them on, a really annoying 'click' has developed on each revolution when Im standing on the pedals. Ive checked that the pedals really nice and tight in the cranks and have injected some more grease into the peadal bearings, but this hasn't made any difference. Any ideas on where to go from here would be much appreiciated....!

Im also a little concerned that one of the pedals seems to have some play in the bearings already, are the bearings on the V8's generally quite 'loose' or do they sound like a dodgy set? Is there any way of adjusting them or are they supposed to be 'fit and forget'?

Not wanting to state the obvious but did you grease the pedal threads before screwing them into the cranks?

I have a set and didn't grease them from new believing they were already greased. They work fine.

However one of my Shimano SPDs has started clicking after ~1500 miles and I can't see a way of opening them. Pretty sure it's not the crank.

You believed the pedal threads were already greased? Did the absence of grease on the pedal threads not give the game away?

OP: Might be worth removing the V8s and refitting the old pedals, just to confirm that the noise is coming from the V8s not the BB. However, there should be no detectable play in the V8 bearings from new, although I can confirm from experience that they will eventually get a bit rattly after years of abuse. Sounds that in your case however you may have got a bad set.

I missed the word "threads" there. The V8s come with a grease syringe for greasing the bearings. I was referring to that.

A couple of things to try before being certain the pedals are goosed:

Remove, grease the threads on the pedals and clean the part where they screw in on the crank arms before replacing and tightening correctly.

Check all the allen bolts that hold your big ring onto your little ring are nice and tight.

But if there is play in the bearings, they probably are knackered.

There's not enough grease in the syringe either, you need to fill the port until it's oozing out of the axle ends, take the end cap off and pull back the bearing cover on the axle side to make sure. wipe of any excess with a rag and then on the threads and reattach the pedals.

Get these two products and it will see you for other jobs you may need to do in the future.

Even cheaper halfords versions are fine to use.

This, most clicking noises on bikes are related to loose chainring bolts.

Also check the cleats on your shoes. Movement can create clicking. Of course it may be entirely unrealted to both this, the pedals, and the bottom bracket. Such is the joy of creaks and cracks on bikes.
