Hi,

I've got a rare Le Mans race engine that needs to be rebuilt.

Can anyone recommend an engine builder in the London/Home counties area? Must have experience in working on Race Spec engines.

Thanks

Jim Stokes is very good for Pre war engines, what engine are you looking to get rebuilt?? He is also VERY expensive.

It's a 1993 Ferrari 348 Engine.

355 block with 348 heads (from the factory)
Ted Wenz crank,
Cosworth Spec Pistons, Cams and Valve Springs.
Large valves.
Individual throttle butterflies.
Titanium rods.
Ported and polished heads.

I posted some info about it here: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

I don't really want to spend mega money on it. The plan is to get an expert to rebuild it and then a friend and I will install it in the car.

Ferrari engines and not spending mega money do not go together in the real world , any engine builder could make a reasonable job with the right parts and info but if you want that extra bit unfortunatly you usualy have to pay for it ! get the quotes from several and compare with any history and opinions of clients and if you want the best you wiil have to pay HTH

I'd read this before letting them lose on anything but your lawnmower.

Sounds like the guy has been getting ripped off/misled from day 1.
Who the hell in their right mind builds an engine with 7.0:1 CR !!!

But certainly given both turbos are almost the same size, clearly again he has been very misled there too. But then surely just looking at them would have told him that ?
A little bit of common sense goes a long way before handing over a few grand. And the exhaust dowpipe fabrication for the Garret looks terrible compared to the original.

And whoever done both first and second intake....well it was only ever going to split. You simply cannot have such a bad shaped open design without strengthening and expect it not to split, unless the alloy used is incredibly thick.
