is anyone aware of any "liquid metal " preparations , that might be able to seal a very tiny gearbox oil leak?

are there any other solutions to this problem ?(short of taking out the gearbox)
how much of a leak is acceptable?(currently about a drop a day )

thanks for your help

What part of the gearbox is the oil leaking from? If its a cracked or porous casting or pin hole in a steel cover then you may be able to seal it with epoxy, and you may be able to stem the flow from a leaking gasket with various sealing products (though they are all bodges). If it's leaking from a worn oil seal then the seal needs to be replaced.

If it is a crack, pinhole or joint try 'Oyltite Stik' have never tried it myself, however have heard good results have been achieved!

thanks for both these replies

all i haqve been able to identify so far , is the lowest point from which the drop is very occassionally popping out (?1 drop every 5 hours)

so i have to get the car on a lift , and then try to identify the leak point

there are a whole load of bolts around the presumed leak site-----do you think that tightening these bolts might help?
