Hi folks,

got my canam kit today and there was no glass screen (checked my order and saw that there was the deflector listed instead of the laminated glass screen).
Still factory sold my a wiper pantograph kit which made me laugh a little.
Anyway the question now if you put the deflector only can you drive with sunglasses, or do you risk to be hit by all kind of st in the face and a helmet is required all the time ?

regards

The general trend with drivers of kitcars with aeroscreens is to use industrial safety glasses. Not as bad as it sounds as they come in a variety of styles and look the part.

To be safe you should wear a helmet if you fear being hit by debris/wasps/bees/stones etc. I choose not to and wear safety specs when I drive cars fitted with aero screens. They test your reaction times!!

The only one I know who drives a Spyder with areo screen is Paul(Sh*thotfast)drop him a line, he's done more miles than anyone with the low screen.

Hi Uwe

I drove my Can-Am for a couple of years with just the aeroscreen. Although it was fun you do get hit in the face by a lot of insect life. Bees really hurt at over 100mph. I lost my favorite pair of sunglasses while turning head sideways at warp factor 10. I decided to fit the full screen after being hit on the head my a rubber bump stop that came of the back of a truck. After fitting the full screen I don't want to go back to the aero screen.

Yep, as I have the spyder the choice is the areo screen or the areo screen! I fitted the lower floor pan as I am fairly tall. The top 3-4 inches of my head is in the windy area, the rest of me inst. I ALWAYS wear glasses - and for passengers - (I bought some sport type - not that i do sport but they wont break)- The only bad news is the rain - small drop of water at any high speed is like small nails!

So down side - a few bugs, rain, etc, on the plus side the car looks much better IMO, and much cooler in the summer (I think the large screen means a lack of fresh air when its hot.) I have driven it for 30k miles over 10 years and never had a problem..... As they say, if you want something sensible - buy an anorak not an ultima ! Good luck -PS: i wish I had the canam choice for the winter/heavy rain times at least you can fit the hood with the large screen.

Yup, I'd agree with all of that. Got hit by a bee in the middle of my nose once - that "stung" a bit, but never been hit by anything else so far. You defo do need glasses of some description though. I also find the airflow over the cockpit is smoother the faster ya go. biggrin

FWIW, I think the full screen on the canam looks uggers - better get a GTR if ya want a full screen.

thanks for all the comments,

looks I might try the aero screen, putting the glass screen later ist not too big of a deal, maybe I fit the the wiper motor from start but not install the pantograph so I only need to remove the screen later.

Spatz, I'm just about to order my Can Am body and will be going aero-screen only, without the wiper mech. I've spent 3yrs driving an Ariel Atom and never once wished for a windscreen (OK, except when I got caught out in the rain once or twice). The Can Am will be a much more civilised car and in my opinion, if you're going to have a spyder type car, then there's no point putting a big screen on it... plus I think the Can Am screen looks gash as it's far too tall for the body of the car.

I've got 2 pairs of shatterproof wrap around sunglasses from Atom days that are brilliant and only cost £15 each. They are foam rimmed on the inside, so the wind doesn't get in and they don't get ripped off your face at extreeme-leptons wink

I've also got a pair of helments, a rain proof Berghaus coat & a pair of waterproof trousers that. The coat & trousers will live in one of the side pods when the car's done and I'll grab a helmet if the weather looks dicey, or I'm doing a big drive (Le Mans for example), just incase of rain.

Don't over think it, the aeroscreen is deffo the way forwards thumbup

Sorry Dave! That's what sticky tyres will do for you wink Still next yr when you're in a GTR and I'm in the aeroscreen'd Can Am, you can get your own back, LOL!
