Nurburgring Camping Advice!

Hi everyone,

I'm nurburgringing it with a few friends from Friday 2nd Sept till 4th next week and we have left camping arrangements down to the last minute. Is this a problem? What are my options?

I've been on these guys website http://www.camping-am-nuerburgring.de/ and they have a weird page about scooters in English which talks about nobody being able to leave the site in a car - I have no idea if I can use this place for a track day base or not. Do people reckon I have to book or can just tip up?

Any ideas are gratefully accepted! And if any PHers are round that weekend, PM me and join us for beers in the evening!

I've stayed there a couple of times and it is quite a good site, the ground is rock hard though so get some bulldog pegs and a good hammer.

Stayed here: http://www.campingfrings-muehle.de/preise/ over the 24 hours weekend - clean, very friendly, 10 - 15 minutes drive from the ring, will be using again next time.

Hadnt you considered the 'Ring campsite? Its extremely large and Ive never seen it full. Their facilities are good, theyre right alongside the tack and the only downside seems to be that they charge by the day, rather than the night (so a simple overnight attracts two day charges, as opposed to the expected one).

Yeah that's the one I was looking at, but it has some weird english sentence about rules saying you can't leave the campsite in your vehicle and return. Obviously I want to go back and forth. Does they just mean for race events or do they mean your caravan or something? Appreciate the advice!

We went in and out of the site fine in our cars, it can get busy on the roads nearby when a big event is on, it could just be a mis-translation.

We did too and as people regularly stay who're going to the track, then Id be very surprised if theyd changed their rules. We did have to show wristbands and wait until an old German fellow (who didnt speak a word of English) came out and opended the barrier for us, though.

Cool. Looks like I was being over-cautious. Did you guys book in advance? I can't understand any of that website!

It was booked for me in advance too, the owner speaks good English if you need to call.

Over the last 4 years, I`ve probably stayed there for over 120 days (spread over several trip obviously )

I`ve never booked, 90% of the time you can`t anyway. Unless its something like DTMN, Rock am Ring, Truck racing or F1, you`ll easily find space, we`ve been there for DTM and Truck GP and there have always been places to pitch.

If using electric, you need a 16A round plug, its not metered, so you can use what you want, its a €2 rate per day.

Be aware, SOME of the staff can be very grumpy. Most are great, but I`ve had run ins with a couple, for no particular reason. Others have too, its not just me.

Something a lot fall foul of is they charge PER DAY. So a arrive Fri and leave Sunday is 3 days, not 2 nights as you pay elsewhere.

They allow you to have open campfires too, which is a big plus for us.
