Does anyone know why my Cerbera 4.5 sounds like a diesel engine when I start her up in the morning?

Because the Engine is cold the clearances for the tappets are incorrect. They are however correct and thus quieter when it is nicely warmed through. The early 4.2 cars had 'clatter' cams, which sounded, like a bag of spanners all the time!

I reserve the right to talk utter rubbish at any time

Silly question probably - but we have ruled out that it is not a diesel. Check for spark plugs.
