I've always liked "nice" watches but have never owned a timepiece myself.

The problem I've had with the handful of watches I've worn is that, being built like a gorilla, I find metal straps catch my arm hair.

All these watches have been cheap things, never anything of substance.

If I were to buy something a little more premium, maybe a Tissot PRC 200, am I less likely to have arm snagginess!?

I'm pretty sure, for now, I don't want leather or rubber - I just prefer metal.

A well designed watch bracelet will definitely help reduce the chances of pulling arm hair, but it's hard to tell if the bracelet will snag without wearing it for a couple of days. No pain, no gain!

Yet you are actively participating in the Watch forum? Not knocking it per se....just interested as to why you would be here? One would presume if you had an interest in watches you would wear one?

Probably just hit the "whats new" button and this was at the top, rather that enter the watch section to post on a thread.

They're all coming out of the woodwork today wink

I'll disagree with your last point though - It's like saying that high end Hi-Fi is pointless now that you can listen to the same music on your phone. Sure, it does the same thing, but with nowhere near the same amount of 'class' wink

If you like phones and watches, this might interest you ... £3-4K:

I'd like a Nato strap for a casual watch, I'm toying with a Seiko 5 Military for casual use.

99% of the time I'm in a suit, IMO a Nato strap doesn't really reflect office wear.

Well I missed out on a PRC 200 S/H on eBay, I'll keep looking!

Not even the same though are they? So you are playing golf you can either, glance at your wrist to see the time in an instant or get your phone out of your pocket, turn it on, check the time, turn it off again, put it back in your bag and carry on. wink

Loads of point!

If you whip your phone out for a crafty peek at the time in a meeting or conversation that's going on beyond your boredom threshold, it's all but impossible to do so without looking like a bit of a .

Whereas it's far easier to sneak a gleg at your watch.
