I saw a dark red one recently that I liked a lot and currently there are two interesting Volantes for sale: a Mako Blue one and a Rosso Corsa (Ferrari Red)!

Toro red.

The Rosso Corsa one is still for sale with £10k knocked off the price recently. Still quite expensive in comparison though.

Not a fan of the Ferrari Red one, looks wrong on an Aston in my opinion. The dark red one is lovely though!

My first V8 was Toro Red, a very rare choice at the time (2005/2006) ... I love the DBS in that colour! Almost tempting enough to pop in next time I am up there ...!

I think there's a reason most are black or silver/grey...

There are a lot of bumps, slots and nobbles on the DBS and blacks and silvers hide them better than most colours. I'm warming to the looks of the DBS, but it's very colour sensitive (as are most big cars).

Nearly a year later, the car listed in the link at the top of the post is still for sale.

Has anyone been to see the car and if so, can they venture any reasons why it hasn't sold?

Because its red, pure and simple.

Traditionally red Astons take longer to sell and are a brave choice - although Toro is a gorgeous colour and looks great on that DBS Volante above.

Either that or it's too much money?

I don't know what the original asking price was but you may be right (most DBS's are too much money according to the price guides...). However, it is now listed for not much more than the Lightning Silver one that Performance Time have just sold and that one had 24,000 miles on it although it was slightly younger on a 58 plate. I would imagine that the peace of mind and 12months warranty from buying from an Aston dealer would be worth something too, especially with the potential liability of those CCM brakes (or am I being naive about this?).

It also appears to come with a Quicksilver exhaust - could this also be a mark against it? After your experience with Quicksilver, what would your opinion be?

That does seem good value to be honest. Strange people haven't gone for it. 10k mile DBS for £80k? I know it's manual and 08 but still.

Often told story, but my DB9 was about £10k under market price because a) it was green, not grey and b) it was manual, not auto.

The fact that was my perfect spec couldn't have been better, but the 'market' wants grey cars with TouchTronic as they are easier to sell on, a larger pool of buyers it seems.

I'd be all over that if I was in the market for one at the moment. I was looking for a grey/black car, but really happy that I ended up with a toro red car myself. I bought the car not the colour, but now I'd actively seek out a different colour. Especially if they are less desirable to the majority of customers, and that reflects in price.

If they still have it at Xmas I might have to take a look!

Me too! And it's amazing how often you hear 'it's nice to see one that isn't grey' when chatting to passers by

Maybe Grant's next book could be called '50 Shades of Aston Grey'?
