Any thoughts on a 2011 Trek 7.5 or 7.6 FX?

I am thinking it is nearly time to change by 1993 Marin Pallisades Trail(!) and my eye has ben drawn to Trek FX hybrid range - does anyone have one or any thoughts on them? Most of my riding is on road, mainly commuting about 7 miles to the office so I need something which is reasonably light and sturdy, and also looks good!

looks nice, loads of other hybrids have heavy, ineffective suspension forks so its nice to see a rigid bike that is well specced for the money.
good size chainrings too so it will be fast.

evans are doing it for £650, well worth a look but dont think about it too long as stocks might be low...

i had a 2010 trek 7.5fx and can thoroughly recommend it. light, fast and comfortable. not sure what else you need. i had the 22.5 inch frame and i'm 6 foot.

I bought one at the end of last year. Great for commuting. Not as fast as my road bike, but not heavy and quite comfortable. Mines a 7.7, but not a huge difference.

Having not bought a bike for myself for many years, I personally see the lack of disc brakes as an advantage as I imagine they add complexity to basic maintenance. Am I right in that or are there any real advantages?

discs arent that hard to maintain and you just need to keep an eye on pads and fluids. they prove their worth in the rain!

I ruled out discs on the basis I prefer lighter bikes. Whilst V brakes can deliver enough power for the daily commute I'll stick with them.

Indeed. I tend to not commute in the rain in London because I can't stop quickly when I need to.

(It has nothing to do with not wanting to get wet, and no, I couldn't just ride slower, I'd get even wetter.)

I have a Trek 7.9 fx and think it's the nuts, very light and fairly fast. Also comfortable to ride and I tend to use it more than either my slick shod mtb or proper road bike.

Biggest issue is trying to find one, they all seem to be sold out.

The Evans Cycles website seems to claim they can deliver one in 21 days. Very nice machine but a bit too rich for my stomach, I am considering something a little lower down the Trek FX food chain!
