I'm toying with the idea of a wooden steering wheel.

Has anyone who's fitted one got any recomendations or pics?

I didn't like the way mine felt especially when in contact with my wedding ring. I sold it and sourced an original leather one.

Hi,

I think I'm going to buy one too, after seeing it looking really classy on a Chim recently. Here is a link to a nice one retailing at £239.

That's what I have on my car. I love it and actually prefer it to the standard leather wheel, doesn't get slippy.

No longer made so getting rare and pricey.

I do really like the interior of yours David, it looks really classy.

Were did you get the veneer from is a find that they seem to very in colour. I am not so keen on the light coloured ones where as yours is nice and dark.

Thanks Matthew, the veneer is the original so luck of the draw on that one.

It has cracked around the bottom of the radio slot and I've looked at lots of veneer to possibly replace it and not seen anything as nice.

i will see if i can find i pic somewhere, i changed mine to a wood/chrome wheel about a year after got my car. I kept my old leather one, but never even considerd changing back. I think it works perfectly with a walnut dash and realy sets off the look of the car.
comfort is fine, no slippage from hands, can be a little reflective on a sunny day so you may need shades!.
I wouldnt fancy crashing with one though.could be sore.headache

Well they can splinter or even break and cut your throat face or chest in two..
You also rearly need driving gloves for a wooden steering wheel..

I would say for everyday use its fine and a great improvment to the look of the car. But if i was using it for track days( i dont and havent) then no, i would then consider the safety .scratchchin
Which is kind of funny when we already drive a feather-weight rocket that has no abs and airbags and just loves cornering in the wet.biglaugh.

Typical hearsay comments, very similar to the ones you hear in pubs from blokes and their mates who had TVRs that broke down all the time.

I've seen pictures of non wood steering wheels that have broken and I'd suggest that if your steering wheel breaks in a crash you're probably not going to be in that good a shape anyway. I can imagine them possibly being dangerous in pre seatbelt days but I don't see why they should behave differently to any other wheel.

You don't need to wear leather gloves either, my wheel has been on my car for the best part of five years now and my hands have never slipped due to sweating, the grip is no different and they don't make your hands hot.

^^^wot he said rolleyes

use mine on track with nearly 500 ponies, has never slipped in my hands and i've had mine for nearly 7 years and over 70k miles cool and as splintering etc etc...do you really think Momo's legal dept. would allow them to sell wood rims in todays letigious society if they were dangerous?

What did you use to recolour the steering column surround? Not quite the right shade, but very much better than black.
