Not the end fo the world by any means, but wondered if anyone had had the same experience?
Noticed on a recent visit to my local main dealer that they were offering a pretty good service for alloy refurb. Saves me taking the car or getting a mobile guy round, plus I wanted the wheels chemically stripped, as have been dissapointed with previous 'sandpaper' refurbs.
Anyway. A couple of mates called this morning as they thought my car had been pinched, as it had been seen on the road yesterday with two blokes in it. All they should do is take the wheels to Birmingham to be stripped, then all painting is carried out at the dealership.
Service bloke has just called me back to say its part of their normal service that when ANY car is booked in for whatever reason, including a valet, it is subject to 'a health check' which includes a road test. Apparently there was also an apprentice in the car.
Can anyone advise whether this is the norm? Obviously I took a note of mileage before dropping off.

Unless they wrapped round a lamp-post, just move on, life's too short.

I wouldn't be happy with that. They could have used one of the dealerships cars to take your wheels for stripping, and the road test is a load of bks.

I know! Just wondered if it was the norm that all cars booked in, for even a valet, are subject to a full inspection and road test.
Guess I just dont like it being driven, as have had issues with denial of scratches, etc in the past.

They told me when car was booked in, that they remove the wheels at the dealership and take the wheels by van to the strippers.

That sounds like utter rubbish to me. OK, not a big deal, but to me the big deal is the lying to cover up.

If its normal service they should inform you of that. Sounds to me like they've just gone for a jolly...

I would say completely not normal. Especially if they had not discussed it with you beforehand.

How many people read the service agreement/job sheet end to end before they sign it, bet you there is a clause in there allowing road tests.

Check the car for any damage, if its ok then dont take you car there again and inform them of this. Test driving after the brakes have been changed- yes, after a wheel refurb- just an excuse as they got caught using it to get there lunch.

Going back some years I took my company car to a dealer for some warranty work and was surprised when the dealer rang and said it needed new front pads. I asked him why they would even have looked and he said they do a standard safety check on all vehicles that come in.

A lot of main dealers do "health checks" on any car they have in for whatever reason. They usually do brake fluid water content, anti-freeze level etc. The reason is so they can phone you to tell you that it is ready and then advise that some other small things ought to be done sir because otherwise you'll crash and burn in a ball of flames as soon as you drive off and only an idiot would want that wouldn't they sir?

There is a local dealer of a certain marque we use for diagnostics because the main dealer system gets far more detail and saves time over any third party system. We put them in at trade rates usually with a trade plate in the window and, without fail, they come back with a "healthcheck report"!

I'm sure it's mainly that but also arse-covering in case the car is driven off only for the brakes to fail and mow down a row of children. Of course the driver would say "I only got it back from the garage a few mins ago" and then there would be a load of st for the garage - "they're supposed to be experts, why didn't they notice" etc etc.

So in the OP's case they drive the car so that any mowing down of children is done by the technicians? Talk about customer service! hehe

Then they have gone for a jolly in an interesting car. I would personally go apest

That can't be right - according to people in the trade posting in the other thread on the same subject, that never happens.
