Just wondering what the average Speed 6 owner has in their car fund?

I save £250 a month into mine, this pays my insurance, mot, service, repairs and mods.

I currently have £2k sitting in mine.

I feel I need at least £4k in mine. Just in case I need to have a service, replace clutch & brakes and get insurance in one hit.

How much is in yours?

Having just had an £1800 service & gearbox rebuild - nothing at the moment.
Insurance due in October but thats paid for out of my everyday money. Car fund is purely for maintenance.
That said I put away £200 a month for this, if I get an unexpected bill it's on the credit card until I pay it off the month or so after.

I have £804.68 left to spend this year, but car will only be used a couple more times this year. I need an alternator and 2 wide band lamdas.
I had two funds going until recently one for non essential upgrades (£12K) and one for general running (£2.5K). The Non essential budget has been spent but don't envisage anything else I need to do to upgrade it now for a very long time.

I too save about £250 per month to cover everything, and the fund is currently sittting at £2.5K. However, going for its first service under my ownership in a couple of weeks, and tax is due at the same time, so i expect it to be a lot lower after that.

Not sure if I have a fund as such as Ive got 4 cars, I just pay as they come I suppose - but if I took a look I would probably say how much!

TVR Sagaris is at least 1000GBP a year for service and parts. M5 touring dont know yet as not serviced at mo, Mini S JCW (wifes) this is covered by the pack she has. French 530d is around 500GBP

But if they went wrong and I had to fork out - man it would dent the savings. Maybe it would be an idea to have a car fund

Not enough. And regardless of how much is in there, I suspect it will never be enough smile

Based on my T350 ownership, you really need £3.5k without tax/insurance (£4k with) just for annual costs:

2010 - respray £2.5k, servicing £500, £500 bits n bobs such as car cover, trickle charge

2011 (so far) - wheel refurb, glass tint, detail £1k, major service £800, £200 bits n bobs. If I keep it I will have the front end re-done and a film applied over winter so will reserve £1k for that

Appreciate some of these are "one-off" costs such as respray and wheels, but if you are fussy like me and want to keep it 100%, worth factoring in. Fortunately tax and insurance total £500 for me.

I will always work to £4k p.a. and then build up a buffer should I need anything major.

I admire the discipline of the guys saving each month for the evetuality of bills, but how do you hide it from the missus ???? Every married man knows if their woman sees 4k sitting around, she's off shopping or booking a holiday !

Unless that's my fault for telling her the TVR won't cost much more to run than the daily driver during the purchase justification phase !!! hehe

Personally, I've bought premium bonds. You can get the money back any time, and you never know you might just get lucky...
