Will they except a removable wheel?

In the UK an immobiliser is required.

I would look into the likes of an old Sabb or i think a merc as they had the key in the consoul or dashboard somewhere else away from the coloumn. you might find that they have an electric lock or plunger thing that goes onto the column somewhere.

you would then have to integrate it into the electrical design.

short of that the quickest way would be to find a car that had a coloumn with matching splines to the Ultima unit. If someone could advise what the spline matches then you might be able to find something that fits down at pick a part or "u pull"

if you know what you need then you can order custom splines or even custom ended unis from wodward. i think they can make them with say an escort spline on 1 end and a gm spline on the other for example?

you might be able to get the upper part of a coloum to fit.

what is your engineers preferance when it comes to welding steering coloums. some are funny about it and dont like it, whilst others will be ok with it providing it is done profesionally, might have to add a few dowels and plug weld them in as well as seam welding around the circumferance. Id ask on Ozzclubies as well.

Maybe this might be an idea. I made one for my detachable steering wheel, for my Caterham.
The Ultima has the same construction.
Still needs a finish, but You get the idea.

Not much point if they're not allowed removable wheels!
However I might just use that idea for mine wink
