Hi,

I'm going to re-waterproof the roof of the chim and someone recommended fabsil.

As there appears to be various different makes of fabsil I wanted to make sure I got the right stuff.
Halfords sell Grangers Fabsil, is this ok ?

Thanks

Podie

Doubtless you will now get lots of replies about the merits of various waterproofing compounds! Can't help you on the particular brand you are looking at, but they all seem to have their various fans. Oh - and you have reminded me that I must get round to selling my Leven roof cover sometime soon!

Use Thompsons Water Seal from B&Q / Homebase etc.

You get 5 litres for the price of 1 litre of Fabsil and it does the same job.

If you can find it, one 1 litre of Water Seal is around £5.

Alexdaredevilz and Johniem, I'll PM you both about the cover.
I was a Thompsons fan myself and was always pleased with its performance.

I emailed Thompsons a month or so ago - they have changed the formula and it's no longer suitable for fabric.

When did this happen?
Do you have more details?

Begining of June:

Thank you for your enquiry. However, I regret that we no longer produce the Water Seal that was suitable for use on canvas. I am sorry to say we do not have a product suited to your requirements. I regret to be of little assistance on this occasion.

Kind Regards

I use the Autoglym product - it may last longer but I re-apply it every three years and it has never leaked a drop.

Thompson or Fabsil, I don't know which is best. I use Fabsil because it's formulated for fabrics whereas Thompson is for brickwork.

It's still on their website.

http://www.thompsonsweatherproofing.co.uk/datashee...

Specifically states " It will also waterproof natural fabrics and similar materials, including cotton, canvas and leather. "

Note - it's the normal Water Seal that you need, not the Ultra Water Seal.

It's readily available:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewIte...

http://www.transtools.co.uk/store/prod_7370/sealan...

Seems like "Andrea" is badly informed.
