Hi all, my 2.0 Mk3 is looking like it's going to need new rear discs.

It spent several weeks in the dealers recently having a leak in the scuttle panel sorted and as a result the rear discs have become heavily corroded, driven it a fair few miles now and while the middle half has come clean the outer half inch is still very corroded.

So, got it booked in at my local kwik fit this saturday for new discs and pads.

They've quoted £200, which I was quite surprised at, was expecting £130ish.

It's a good branch of kwik fit and I certainly trust their work, but I just wanted to check they weren't over charging for this work?

Also have a lose sounding rattle on the rear near side quarter, did suspect it was trim in the parcel shelf area but going to have them just check over the suspension too. It's a funny noise and only really get it over uneven ground rather than or individual bumps if you know what I mean?

Thanks for any help.

Yes I am serious.

I know people on here like to put them down, but I personally find they're as good as the branch, the name above the door means very little in my experience.

Over the years I have used this particular branch for many vehicles and never had anything but superb service, which is in complete contrast to some of my experiences with main dealers. The manager in particular at this branch is a real car enthusiast and is very knowledgeable. They readily give free advice (to be fair they know I am a regular customer) and you only pay to have your car put right not for hours of diagnostic - I had a bad experience with a vuaxhall dealer recently, I was 99% sure my alternator was on it's way out, but instead of starting there they went through a charade of 'diagnostic' work charging me £90 for the privelidge!

I generally find kwik fit untouchable on price and the warranties they offer are second too none.

But enough about that, in this case I simply find their quote more than I expected and was hoping others could offer a comparison to what they mey have paid for similar work?

Thanks for that.

£150 for genuine Mazda or around £70 for aftermarket. Depends what kwik fit are quoting for really then doesn't it? Bear in mind they'll give me a new replacements as long as I have the car and I don't have to fit them. But then I could save £130. Hmmm... I dunno which way to go now

I wouldn't use Kwik Fit or a main dealer. There is a little garage down the road from us. The staff have been there years, have worked on just about every car there is, have experience of all possible jobs and never overcharge - in fact they've done quite a lot of work for me FOC! There is no way you can get than sort of knowledge/experience/service at a Kwik Fit or main dealer. Independent is the way to go.

You can bet KF arent fitting OEM parts.....

each garage is different though and if you trust the staff and they havent changed & don't let a new boy at it un-supervised - why not.
Personally i prefer and independant as i've suffered with the chains
